Dramatize much?

I still remember a conversation at work with two people telling me we need a bigger car now that we have a baby. You'll see, they said as they walked away shaking their heads.

My county in the US with population over 1M has free bus service, and as stated, New Mexico voted for child care. These things weren't automatic in Europe either. The difference between us isn't black and white but a spectrum.

That peculiar American fear that someone, somewhere, is getting something they don't deserve.

I agree with widened, buffered sidewalks. They told me that is not considered because of the narrow right of way, but if enough people push for it, who knows?

True communism is just around the corner.

Mississippi, Bucks County in Pennsylvania.

Define "blue."

I don't see anything surprising about people caring deeply about something that negatively affects quality of life and causes so much death and trauma.

I get so tired of the county level map being used like it means something. Lots of counties that went overall Republican have towns and cities that went strongly Democratic.

Your town is really a blue tower. Blue dot sounds small and I don't think reflects the increased population density of the towns and cities.

A couple of these responded to your post.

Imagine a general telling his units facing the fiercest resistance that they are dumb and don't deserve reinforcements and then giving medals to the units who don't have to try very hard because they face fewer enemies.

That general would lose the war.

I'm from the Chicago area and saw this when it first came out. We all knew about Skokie. That line was absolutely a reference to it and a statement on it.

The audience cheered and laughed.

Camouflage military style uniforms need to be absolutely forbidden for anyone not in the Army or Marines. Not too long ago even the Army didn't wear that stuff when not in the field or doing manual labor.

And that benefit amount isn't enough to feed a family, much less buy food to stockpile.

Hotel breakfasts in Europe are proof that they don't need to be the sad, deflating affairs that too often pass for hotel breakfasts in the US.

Having said that, the Riu in New York really gets it.

It doesn't make that much sense to constantly group people by age. We have much stronger ties to other people than what our age bracket is.

The difference in support for Cuomo and Mamdani among older people is not that great. Like any race, it's not over til it's over.

How would you know who to get rid of?

In the slide presentation under "next steps," it has bike/ped feasibility results under Winter 2026. It's like pedestrian and bicycle stuff can just be tacked on at a later date like it's not an integral part of the roadway. But the plan now shows minimal space or aspirations for a sidepath.

Thanks! If they announced it, I missed it. I only learned it by looking at the plan at a public meeting and saying hey it looks like the traffic lane overlaps the sidewalk. And they confirmed it.

People drive fast enough to take out utility poles. The last time was a couple of weeks ago. This important stretch of road needs to be made safe for people who are not in cars. The planning stage of the Flash BRT median lane project is the time to do it.

If lanes aren't planned to be narrowed now to calm traffic and create room for safe pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, it will be far less likely or impossible to do it in the future.

This is the only route for miles around for people walking and biking to cross NorthWest Branch.

But other sections of US 29 between Burnt Mills and Four Corners will get no lane narrowing even where the right of way is constricted and there is no room to create buffer and widen sidewalk.

Even where a small buffer will be created, the plan is to keep the sidewalk narrow.
October 29, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Lane narrowing is critical to calm traffic and slow speeding cars, but the choice is to squeeze pedestrians instead.

Commendably, lane narrowing will be used just south of Burnt Mills to widen the sidewalk by a long retaining wall.
