Absolutely stunning to see Australia's teen social media ban rushed through while every single government, educational institution and probably a huge number of parents are frantically force-injecting chatbot slop into the mind of every single child in the country without a second's hesitation

That sounds like it might work! What if we took it further and had a collective entity that could negotiate on behalf of every person in the United States; imagine what that would do to prices! Gosh are there any organizations like that, able to represent every person living in the country?
Rand Paul on his healthcare plan: "What if you could join Costco? Costco has 44m members and if one person negotiated for all 44 and they bought a group plan like Toyota or General Motors does, they would be the largest collective entity in the country. They would drive prices down by sheer might."

Every facet of generative AI has made my professional life worse, without question, but THIS specific aspect has been driving me NUTS.

Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.
I feel the clients now using GenAI to do stuff and going "good enough" when they used to nitpick at every last detail is due to them finding out all those nit picky changes take time and work they cant be bothered to put in.

They're nitpicky because they want to FEEL like their input was an important part of the result. And they get that feeling when the slop machine gives them their customized slop.

Trump's DOJ is never going to weigh the merits of a Paramount takeover of Warner Brothers objectively when the Saudis, his son in law, and billionaire donor is involved.

Yet you're going to read endless stories in the months to come that treat the review process as a completely normal one.

also always deeply funny that every sci-fi video game from 1999-2014 was trying to be Aliens, and copied everything except the...working class woman protagonist
Everyone imitates Tolkien all the time except when it comes to the one way it would really matter: making the protagonist of your novel for children a short, fat, 50-year-old man who doesn't want to do anything.

why does everyone in the nuzzi orbit write like this!!
all of these people need an editor, a psychiatrist, and a small circle of trusted friends they can share this sort of beastly idea with over brunch instead of inflicting it on the public.
Possibly the only thing more freakish than Nuzzi's prose is the contortions her defenders twist themselves into. "She's not just hot, but she definitely is hot, while also being a vulnerable smol child. Also, criticizing her is sexist."

I literally have a grenade strapped to my Scrivener research files. There is no way I can explain them to people who aren't writers. I mean, I used to write obscure encyclopedia articles and know way too much about peeling the flesh off a human skull and shrinking it into a cursed object.

This UCP government continues to find all manner of ways to limit debate. Today they just simply shut it down before it could even begin. It's a new low, even for them.

I don't know if folks who didn't grow up in the Christian church grasp how painfully clear the Bible is about treating all humans with dignity and respect. Jesus was like PRETEND THOSE PEOPLE ARE ME IF THAT HELPS.

And yet!

This is something I and my fellow hyper literate types have a really hard time grasping. It’s frustrating to think you’re being really clear in writing, but still get wildly misunderstood because you’ve overestimated people’s literacy level.

This is…a real problem online.
People don't understand what is meant by "literacy" and the "literacy crisis".

Literacy isn't just not being able to physically read. Many people know how to see words and say words, which is basic reading. Literacy is being able to infer the correct information from what you read.
