We have a bird bath and fountains with fresh water. We have the lidded bucket for the grill which when it rains collects water. I had been dumping it. I moved it under the viburnum shrub to see what would happen. Sure enough, the new favorite, like giving a present and they play with the box. 🦉

As a former copy editor, this wouldn’t have gotten past me. However, as an American living in this disaster of a failing republic, I read this 3 times wishing this were true and I’d miss a major headline.

How I’m spending my Thursday evening as I work to gain my master gardener certification for Pennsylvania. 🌱

Awoke watching the moon set on this cool autumn morning. I heard something familiar, but not and went outside to look and listen. The sound continued and I grabbed my phone. Merlin told me I was hearing my first Eastern screech owl. I looked about and saw him, snapping a photo. 🪶🪶

As someone who lived in Portland for 25 years and raised my kids there, I’m here for this comment.

The adults in the room: US Central Bank chair with the chairs of the EU, England and Japan. Jerome Powell is being shown the support he has more than earned.

Grey catbirds may just be my favorites to watch. I left a pot unplanted and a nightshade volunteered. I let it grow. The birds are pleased. 🪶

Our bird feeder gets a lot of action including from the woodchucks and squirrels, but this is the first time I’ve seen the starlings hop of one and pick. Are they getting fur for nests or searching for insects? The internet is of little help, surprisingly. #birds

This is one of mine in Connecticut. The smoky appearance aren’t actually flowers, but the bracts that develop after it flowers. They are a favorite tree/shrub of mine.

Crossing the George Washington bridge this morning, I drove under the largest US flag I’ve ever seen. It felt nostalgic, like a celebration of the sacrifices of people committed to a democracy that no longer exists. 💔🇺🇸💔

Finally got my first pileated woodpecker at my feeder in Philadelphia. He eventually made it onto the suet cage which is barely big enough for him to balance. #bird

I did it! Hoping to be in my first EV by summer 2026. My current car (a Subaru Forester I bought new) has more than 250,000 miles on it and is 22 years old. It is time.

Happy St Patrick’s Day, the most Americanized of Irish holidays. It’s March Madness. We’re in an Irish bar in Philly having Guinness on draft.

I want to support the free press as I always have. Sadly, I can no longer do that with a WaPo subscription when it is simply a megaphone for this regime. Bezos can go fuck himself.

TCPride doesn’t seem to be on Bluesky yet, so I’m sharing this way.

My first redwing blackbird (juvenile perhaps) at the feeder in our backyard in Philadelphia. We had many at our pond in Litchfield County. So happy to see them here. 🪶

I had to drive an hour before I’d be able to eat. I grabbed a banana as I was going out the door. I didn’t want the peel sitting in the car, so I tossed it on my solidly frozen snow-covered lawn to fetch later. I flash back to first year Torts and chuckled about whether one negated the other.

View from our bedroom window as dawn broke this morning. It’s 12° here in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The sparkling blanket of ice-covered snow on our east meadow is beautiful, but I’m going to stay inside all cozy and warm today.

Red-bellied woodpecker trying out the new seed I put in. 🪶

Busy morning at the feeder. I love when the downy and hairy woodpeckers visit at the same time. 🪶
