Celebrity culture is a whole mess and we have to stop with the hero worship and parasocial nonsense.

“But it’s giving me hope” no thank you. Go outside and find hope with your own hands. Meet your neighbors. Do the things you exalt others for.

A pattern for troubled times:
Row 1: put your phone down
Row 2: pick up your hobby supplies
Row 3: make something for at least an hour
Row 4: take a photo of your make
Row 5: share that photo to your timeline (with alt text)
Row 6: like others' makes.

Rep rows 1-6 until time for tea.

Well, this is why I was going for that religious studies major in college.

It’s a lot more than “opening a religion shop” or “depending on your comp sci boyfriend’s salary”

It’s a way to understand some of the fundamental motivations of humans, but I got that business degree instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pro tip for navigating despair (if you are not immediately in a crisis situation, of course):

Go find a group of people and go do something meaningful to make your local community better.

Pick up litter.
Organize a block party.
Knit scarves for the statues downtown.
Speak at city council.

People have a lot to say about prisoner firefighters in California some of which is not particularly true. This 2020 legislation let them pursue firefighting careers upon release:

Make sure to add a battery powered carbon monoxide detector to your emergency kit, especially if you are using a generator. Oh, and batteries.

I keep seeing that post going around about how people went to go check for evacuation routes on major news sites and were paywalled out.

This is a damn shame and should not happen. But also it shows the need to go directly to the source. The Cal Fire website (www.fire.ca.gov) is the source

Being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer in any way is NOT a mental illness.

Just want to remind you all.

No matter what any religion says or what any political discourse tries to tell you.
Meta literally created a LGBTQ exception for calling someone mentally ill as an insult. You can't do it for any other group except LGBTQ people.

Neither Bluesky nor Threads brought earthquake content to my feed today. Bluesky I expected; I haven’t established myself well here. But I’ve got sort of a Northern California following going over on Threads, and nothing?

My main purpose for Twitter was THINGS LIKE THIS. Hoping to find it again.
