Expat American living in Ireland, and glad to have escaped the fascist dictatorship.
For more depression see how the US keeps dropping on all the World Population Index rankings.

Note World Population Index is US, Canadian, and German Libertarian think tanks using data from the CIA.

And they don't have the US in the TOP 50 free countries. I remember when the US was in the top 20.

I'm assuming this is "Eyes Wide Shut," (saw it once, near 20 years ago, was bored), so coming into these images fresh, without preconceptions, I prefer the "wrong" 2007 grade on every image. 2007 is a prettier image all around.

That's my $0.17 (two cents, adjusted for inflation).

It's all about mood.

I mean the "Moonlight" images -- both of 'em are "bullshit blue." Just one skews more magenta, the other green.

The first shot -- the new grade is darker and higher contrast and makes the background look dirty and grungy. /cont

Well, not too long after my prior post, Wobbles went into "Daddy, daddy, love me, love me, pet me, pet me!" again.

But after a few minutes of that she flipped into "kill, maim, hurt, destroy!"

The new wound... Again, don't think she meant to make me bleed, but that was deliberate.

Scott would burst out of cover, dash towards his target then jump straight up in the air in front of them, land, twitch his tail as if to say "I totally could have gotten ya!" and dash off. But he'd never pounce ON the other cats.

Scott was a very good boy.
November 11, 2025 at 5:38 AM
There's also the thing with older cats where their claws don't retract as well anymore. That happened with my poor Scott. He'd get me occasionally by pure accident.

Scott truly was the most passive, gentle, and non violent cat I've ever met. Even "pouncing" other cats... /cont

That, too, but the CH kitty from my prior post is only 18 months old and I'd just put her in my lap. She was just flopping around to get where she wanted to be.

She's an independent girl and wants to do it herself most of the time. Although she has a specific meow which means, "OK, a little help?"
November 11, 2025 at 5:34 AM
I'm reading this looking at the long scratch across my right palm and down my wrist.

Although the cat who did it has cerebellar hypoplasia (malformed/undersized cerebellum, thus serious movement control issues), and I'm pretty sure it was a total accident. She was trying to adjust on my lap.
November 11, 2025 at 4:43 AM
Yeah, I've ticked off a friends in similar fashion. Like walking in as a friend is telling my wife the cat hates to be held, me holding the cat on his back, petting his tummy as he purrs madly and kneads the air.

I'm a cat whisperer.

Of course the trick is to put the cat down when it says to.
November 11, 2025 at 4:40 AM
Then you try tucking the string inside your collar and zipping up and the cat decides the zipper tab is ALSO a cat toy!

Fetterman is a lost cause. His own words say, "After my stroke I feel free to say what I've always believed."

He was always a "DINO."
November 10, 2025 at 1:49 AM
"Ye">"Y'all," IMHO.

It's one I've adopted unironically over, "you all," "y'all," "you guys," and other tortuous constructions.

I say we bring "ye" back.

If nothing else, take a note. You may write an archaic story, or an Irish character. Knowing the "ye" is useful for you as an author.
November 9, 2025 at 5:12 AM
Ah, Ireland still uses an archaic word US, UK, Canadian, and Australian English abandoned.

"Ye."

A plural/universal "you."

If speaking with just you, "How are you?" If I'm speaking with (say) you and your wife, "How are ye?"

Without needing the phrase "you all" contracted to "y'all."

Love it.
November 9, 2025 at 5:09 AM
My response: "I'm from California. 'Y'all' is southern. Like the distance from Cali to Kentucky is from here to Moscow. You mock me with 'dude,' dude."

Yet I do love it here.

The issue being, where many Americans think of Ireland as a bunch of drunks, fighting at the drop of a hat (rather than tech capital of the EU), they view the US through the lens of US pop culture. So they have their own stereotypical views. Irish mock Americans with "y'all." /cont
November 9, 2025 at 4:11 AM
She absolutely is. To be quite blunt, over this very issue, I've said to her -- and this is a direct quote -- "I consider this a major issue. It makes you untrustworthy, and it makes me think less of you."

My arguments with locals come to where Ireland does better, and avoiding US mistakes.
November 9, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Which is why I disagree with my wifey on this (plus the base ethical question of lying about one's history to everyone she meets, and dragging me into it as I either back her or contradict her).
November 9, 2025 at 3:40 AM
I'm aware this is a global battle. We all have to choose our battlegrounds. Mine is Ireland.

it's fucking EMBARRASSING to be American overseas now. My wife (I don't agree with this) has gone so far as to now claim to be Irish born, moved to the US by her parents in youth, to avoid the stigma.
November 9, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Also the proposed "solution" was to move these failed applicants to a location outside the EU while their deportation was processed - or DEPORTING THEM BEFORE DEPORTING THEM!

Yeah, that bullshit saves taxpayer Euros.

Of course Irish right wing groups are coordinating with American ones. /cont
November 9, 2025 at 3:11 AM
The Irish govt/Taoiseach (Prime Minister) just sold out immigrants by saying "migration to Ireland is too high," and using the under 1000 asylum seekers whose asylum was denied as the example, ignoring the other 50,000/year. Fucking shameful.

2) A lawyer working with a firm takes the case assigned. That's the job.

Humphries knew that, hence why her attacks on Connolly were styled in the press "American-style" politics (and as something Ireland should avoid -- yes, the US is now the "bad example").

/cont
November 9, 2025 at 3:07 AM
And it's gonna be a tough fight. Last Irish election one candidate tried to slur the other for speaking out against bank repossessions while, when working as a lawyer, representing banks.

Of course 1) EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO A LAWYER. That's a tenet of English-derived (like US/Ireland) law /cont
