Currently reading Astronomy 2e (OpenStax) again. If you don't know it yet, it's a really comprehensive online astronomy textbook, completely free (donations welcome) and with numerous links to online simulations. 🔭

Three seconds into this clip, a spinning sphere full of fluid stops. But the fluid interior keeps spinning! The flow at the surface develops nice horizontal shear lines and then becomes turbulent. 🧪 🔭

NASA's visualization team created a preview of every phase of the Moon in 2025, hour by hour.

The best part: Watching how the Moon's appearance changes due to its inclination, oval orbit, and libration (wobble). 🔭🧪

Here is my image of #M42 which is the famous nebula in Orion's sword and also #SH2-279 The Running Man Nebula just above it. I took this image with my RedCat 51 scope and ZWO 294MC Pro cam. I plan to image this over the next few months with a longer focal ratio. #astrophotography #nebula #space

Hidden by the bright star Gamma Cassiopeiae are the reflection nebula IC59 (left) and emission nebula IC63 (center). This 9 hr image shows they are connected and IC59 also has emission. Astronauts used Gamma Cass for navigation. Gus Grissom called it Navi, his middle name backwards #astrophotography

If real, the source is probably a binary black hole. There is glitchiness in the data that may impact source inference

A small tribute to the great Henrietta Swan Leavitt and Edwin Hubble who about 100 years ago opened the door to understanding the humbling and colossal size of the universe.
