I think you’re right. I should go back and re-watch that just to exorcise my anger. :)

Now that gambling advertising is allowed in Ontario, we’re swamped with it, and gambling-based issues have increased significantly. It’s so incredibly stupid, but so incredibly profitable.

We’ve had the reverse here in Stratford. About 20cm two days ago, and about 5cm today with a melt between. We are always right on a streamer edge: blue sky one side, snow on the other. Either way, we get nailed. :)

As a Canadian who lived in the US from 1997-2002, imagine how confused I was that I had to!

Performative indignation. It’s the new humblebrag.

This is, in the parlance, a shitshow. His friends didn’t get their greenbelt space, so now they’ll build somewhere else where there’s open land to be taken.

What was their rationale for telling you not to waste your time?

I absolutely empathize with you. I live with it, too. Every day is a new challenge to overcome the darkness. Thanks to decades of therapy and some medical support I have some tools in my toolbox, but it’s always a struggle. You’re not alone.

I have a friend who is a master pen cutter and calligrapher. He writes in 16th century secretary hand and wrote out my father’s favourite Shakespearean quote on authentic 17th century paper. Art is beautiful.

Loads. Learning about other cultures is vital to our survival as a species.

Unfortunately the abuse of First Nations people lasted for over 150 years. Residential schools were set up by the government and Christian churches to enable a cultural genocide. Canada is still working on implementing the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The purple area is the Huron Tract, in which you can see Stratford. This area was “purchased” by the Crown in 1825. The small dark maroon bits are reservations where most of the indigenous population ended up.

Not strange at all. This whole area was wooded hunting grounds for the First Nations people before the European settlers arrived. They were then moved onto reservations which became smaller and smaller. There are treaties that cover rights of the land for both the Crown and First Nations.
