Methane leaks (and intentional venting) happen all the time. They make natural gas far worse for climate than it appears when looking only at CO2 from combustion.
Methane is an extremely potent greenhouse gas — over 80x more powerful than CO2 over 20 years.
Leaks like this undermine climate goals, waste energy consumers pay for, and pose safety risks.
