As @glenpeters.bsky.social says, we're way off target for any 1.5°C scenario.

To see how far off, each of the red/green bars represents the decrease in CO₂ emissions during COVID. Even if we achieved that from now until the end of 2030, we would still miss our 1.5°C target by a significant margin.

Trump claimed at the UN: “They [China] build them, but they have very few wind farms. So why is it that they build them and they send them all over the world, but they barely use them?”

Answer is: they actually do. China has more wind power than any other country.

September 2025 was the third warmest September on record at 1.47C above preindustrial levels in ERA5, behind only the prior two years (2023 and 2024).

With 9 months of the year now in, I estimate 2025 will approximately tie with 2023 for the second warmest year on record at ~1.48C.

The white cloud here is water vapor condensing out of the air as the (invisible) pressurized methane in the pipeline expands and cools.

Methane leaks (and intentional venting) happen all the time. They make natural gas far worse for climate than it appears when looking only at CO2 from combustion.
This is footage of a major gas leak near Romsey, UK in July 2024.

Methane is an extremely potent greenhouse gas — over 80x more powerful than CO2 over 20 years.

Leaks like this undermine climate goals, waste energy consumers pay for, and pose safety risks.
