Trauma is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. Children have unique injury patterns and substantial differences in their response to trauma when compared with adults; this requires special consideration when addressing the assessment and management of pediatric trauma.

TREKK offers resources in both official languages. Our French translations must be as accurate as those in English, otherwise the consequences could be devastating.

June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder of hemoglobin, in which sickling of red blood cells results in hemolysis and vasoocclusion. Newborn screening has led to early identification of SCD in many regions across Canada.

We've reviewed our Status Epilepticus resource. Status Epilepticus is a time-sensitive emergency, since untreated seizures lead to more seizures and delayed treatment contributes to morbidity and mortality.

June 10 is Action Anxiety Day. Anxiety is a normal emotional and physiological response to uncomfortable, novel or frightening situations. During an emergency department (ED) visit, anxiety can be experienced by any child or adolescent as well as by their caregivers.

Are you interested in an opportunity to guide, shape, and influence how the latest knowledge in children's emergency care is mobilized across Canada? Would you consider bringing your skills and knowledge to an established and well-supported national not-for-profit organization? Translating Emergency Knowledge for kids (TREKK) is looking for a trainee in pediatric and/or emergency medicine with an interest in research. About TREKK. Most acutely ill and injured children in Canada are managed within emergency departments that are not part of a children's hospital. Difficulties in getting the right resources and training have been cited as barriers to providing the best possible care in tehse settings. This has resulted in significant variations in the emergency care provided to children in Canada. TREKK launched in 2011 as a knowledge mobilization network to address these critical knowledge gaps. TREKK aims to improve emergency care for children by co-designing and sharing resources with families and healthcare providers. Time commitment. This is a volunteer position. Approximately 2-5 hours per month. Terms of Position. One 3-year term with the option to renew. How to apply. Our Fractures resource has been updated. Children break bones more easily than adults, so pediatric fractures are very common.

Would you consider bringing your skills and knowledge to an established and well-supported national not-for-profit organization? Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (TREKK) is looking for applicants to serve on its Board of Directors, with the following key requirements: Proven Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams. Governance Experience: A strong understanding of nonprofit governance, including strategic planning, decision-making, and oversight. Fundraising and Grant-Seeking Expertise: Experience in fundraising efforts, securing grants, and cultivating relationships with donors to support the organization's purpose. Most acutely ill and injured children in Canada are managed within emergency departments that are not part of a children’s hospital. Difficulties in getting the right resources and training have been cited as barriers to providing the best possible care in these settings. This has resulted in significant variations in the emergency care provided to children in Canada. TREKK launched in 2011 as a knowledge mobilization network to address these critical knowledge gaps. TREKK aims to improve emergency care for children by co-designing and sharing resources with families and healthcare providers. This is a volunteer position. Approximately 2-5 hours per month. The Board of Directors meets quarterly via a 1 ½ hour virtual meeting, with one in-person, full day meeting each year (typically in the Fall). Travel and accommodations for meetings are arranged and covered. One 3-year term with the option to renew.
