Interesting roots of a red alder that slide down to the beach. Was growing on shallow soil with glacial till below. One large root growing away from the slope and the rest on the surface of the soil.

Found an old wooden coil pipe in Port Townsend. Probably installed around the 1900s. Was used for municipal stormwater off a high bank bluff which eventually eroded away.

This red alder was found in Port Townsend by my friend Jesse. Four or five layers of epicormic roots caused by sloughing soil. Looks like the last slough was too much.

Fire scar on a western redcedar at Miller Peninsula State Park. The living section of the tree, the other side, was 145 years old.
