It’s wild that conventional wisdom is now that we are in an AI bubble, and the crazy take is that AI company valuations and infrastructure spending makes any sense.

Particularly apt, when I see that the UK Government Gateway log-in is on AWS (!) and so didn't function. Why would a state make its essential operations so vulnerable to one single thing, in another country? Madness.
With the AWS outage, now‘s as good a time as any to post this old strip.

One day the industry will recognize the drawbacks of AI agents and nondeterministic automation, and rediscover the UNIX philosophy of chaining together small purpose built tools in a low cost and predictable way, otherwise known as shell scripts.

related to the Git cheat sheet I mentioned last week https://git-scm.com/cheat-sheet, I'm thinking of making some changes to the official Git glossary (https://git-scm.com/docs/gitglossary), to make it easier to look up what terms like "object" or "reference" mean in Git

I need some test […]

After the AI bubble pops there will be a lot of sweet deals on H100’s from companies selling off all the assets in bankruptcy.

I sure hope some of that hardware reaches the general public instead of just going to the top few surviving mega corps…. But that might just be hopium.

I was thinking Apple was having their Windows 8 moment with the horrible UI baked into Sequoia... but no, this is worse than that. It's like they didn't even test the macOS UI on actual Macs or with human beings using them.

Team stay-on-Sequoia here...

This redesign of the AWS website is an abomination.

Horrendously low information density. The most important thing here is to be able to compare across many options quickly. Now I have to scroll scroll scroll and flip back and forth between pages.

Most trend pieces hang on 3 cherry-picked datapoints. This one?

1. GPT-5 flopped.
2. MIT says 95% of AI projects fail.
3. Nvidia dipped post-earnings.

My take: AI’s been overhyped. The impact’s real, but OpenAI isn’t on the verge of birthing Skynet. Everyone wants to give them a reality check.
Tech's hottest industry is facing a brutal reality check. That's a good thing in the long run.
Between Nvidia's recent earnings and OpenAI's underwhelming GPT-5, it's clear AI is entering its "meh" era. That's good news for everyone.
