Even as an EU citizen. I have witnessed someone from Poland being taken off the train by danish border police in Padborg for not having valid ID on them.
Also Schengen explicitly states you need a passport/ID to travel, you just have the right to travel freely. europa.eu/youreurope/c...

The no.1 response I get to saying that I moved to Rendsburg is "why??" and… I feel like it’s not a fair question. Sure, the city isn’t in its hayday but it’s got a lot of very beautiful areas, rich history, plenty of good (and accessible!) walkways, parks, and diverse neighborhoods
