Fayne by Ann-Marie MacDonald is a sweeping historical novel set in the 19th century. It follows Charlotte Bell, a funny, inquisitive young person raised in isolation on the vast, misty estate of Fayne, on the border of Scotland and England.

We read the essay and immediately changed our rule about non-fiction, and we asked Emilie to turn the essay into a book. Notes to Self was published in July 2018, and we think you'll agree its impact has been massive. We still get a lot of subs from authors who cite this book as a big inspiration!

Maeve Kelly, 'the Irish Flannery O'Connor', Irish novelist, short-story writer and poet, was born in Ennis, Co. Clare.

Later, she performed spoken word at the Nuyorican Poets Café in New York and represented NYC in the nationals in Seattle. She studied literature at Hunter College, and it was while she was getting her MFA in New York that she began the novel that would become Problems. Jade Sharma died in 2019.
