Graded/edited 35 research paper drafts (15-20 pages each) in 10 days. I'm beyond fried. Gonna pass out now.

in the middle of a huge pile of grading I took a peak at rate my prof and found the absolute best compliment I have ever gotten in 30 years of teaching and now I am full on crying.

Please don't say "Democrats caved" or similar broad stroke condemnations. Democrats did not. Not (even) Schumer. Not Jeffries. Not majorities in either chamber. The party is being sold out by a tiny number of gutless senators, one of whom is not even in the party. That is the story.

Preaching to the choir but as someone who has done hundreds of interviews I'm still shocked by how bad The Daily podcast interviewers can be. Ridiculously fake incredulity used to ask incredibly leading snowball questions. Just venting.

The home of a judge and a former Democratic elected official in South Carolina (both of whom have taken strong anti-Trump positions) explodes and burns to the ground the day after Stephen Miller threatens those who go against trump, including judges. It might be worth a mention???

I can't decide what is the worst part, but his complaining that he didn't get the contract to renovate the UN back in the day is pretty high on the list.

There will be a point at the trials when the prosecutors are going to want to prove a depraved indifference to human life, and man are they going to be spoiled for material.

sign of hope: in 2 out of 3 of my classes today, my explanation of why I don't allow AI use in my class was met with at least one student expressing an even more hostile view of its use than mine (largely on the "let's not kill the planet" theme but also "because I want to learn something.")

All of these would be unacceptable in my class. Do we no longer expect students can read and summarize an article on their own? And, producing a fake image seems like something authoritarians do, right? Not historians. I would change every Yes to "no fucking way".
Quite honestly, I don't think the use of AI in any of these instances is "acceptable," and I would clearly tell my students so.

why so little chat about the good trouble demos yesterday? Some newsmedia are covering it (@nytimes.com has not a peep about the ones in their f**king neighborhood). but not much on social media either. I'm out of country so may be out of touch but .....why so little attention even here on bluesky?
A stirring and powerful evening of #GoodTrouble with thousands of our neighbors. Power to the people, always.

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.
