Sperm whales have equivalents to human vowels.

We uncovered spectral properties in whales’ clicks that are recurrent across whales, independent of traditional types, and compositional.

We got clues to look into spectral properties from our AI interpretability technique CDEV.

This isn't something I've done any formal study in at all but my sense is that interfaces like ChatGPT use conversational language specifically to "hack" our normal human theory of mind, which prompts us to assume self and intentionally where none really exist

one thing I haven't seen work on but would be fascinated to is how first photos, then film, then computers affected our own concepts of how memory works. (the reality of memory is *extremely* unlike the way we depicts flashbacks, for instance.)
A lot of the concern around AI tends to focus on the future but I’ve been thinking a lot about how it might alter our understanding of the past. Specifically our own pasts. I wrote about how Google Photos is going all in on AI photo editing and their shift from ‘photos’ to ‘memories’
