He/him. SFF author interviews, articles and occasional book reviews.
I’ve had STEEL TREAD on my shelf for ages, and *finally* picked it up a couple of days ago. Blasted through it in no time - loved it! Just confirms something I’ve thought for a while: that the ‘Astra Militarum’ series is easily the most consistently excellent #BlackLibrary series going right now.

THE BLACKFIRE BLADE by @jamesloganauthor.bsky.social, book 2 in the LAST LEGACY series & sequel to THE SILVERBLOOD PROMISE, is out tomorrow from @arcadiabooks.bsky.social! To celebrate, I'm delighted to have an annotated excerpt exploring how James has expanded the setting for this 2nd instalment.

WHEN THERE ARE WOLVES AGAIN by @catamaroon.bsky.social is out now in hardback from @arcadiabooks.bsky.social and it's wonderful! I absolutely loved it so I was thrilled to be able to interview E.J. about this brilliant speculative story of rewilding, climate change and hope for a sustainable future.

I’ve not been online much recently, but I’ve still been chipping away with my reading. Here are my two current reads - very different books, but both fascinating in their own rights!

What have you been reading lately?

I’ve been meaning to read THE KING IN YELLOW for ages, and now I’m finally taking the plunge. One story in and it’s a *wild* ride! Anyone else a fan of this one?

Yeah, these covers look cool together. And it's just SO good to see #BlackLibrary support Peter Fehervari's work like this! Here's hoping for something new relatively soon, too...

Question for the #BlackLibrary readers: if you collected the original Horus Heresy/Siege of Terra books in a physical format (LE/HB/PB etc.) are you planning to keep collecting the Scouring novels and/or any new Heresy novels? Or are you going to change formats/not bother at all?
August 21, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Well I never. Check out the Black Library logo on the promo image for the upcoming Warhammer preview - that’s a very welcome inclusion! I wonder what’s going to be announced…

This year’s birthday book haul - although I did, admittedly, buy several of these for myself. They still count!

Today's interview is with @gracechanwrites.bsky.social discussing her fantastic debut EVERY VERSION OF YOU, which is out now from Verve Books! Near-future Australian SF exploring digital identity and authenticity (and loads more), it's a fab book - and I loved chatting to Grace about it!

Really enjoyed last night’s book talk with @essiefox.bsky.social and @annamazz.bsky.social at Waterstones Windsor - and obviously I came away with both authors’ books :) Community Cat is interested, but she’s not that big of a reader. That’s ok though - I can’t wait to jump into both of them!

Thanks so much to the kind folks at @dawbooks.bsky.social for sending me this beautiful copy of WEARING THE LION by @wiswell.bsky.social! It arrived this morning just as I finished my previous book; perfect timing :) Been looking forward to this, so jumping straight in!

I’ve been absent on socials for a while, just haven’t had the headspace for it. I’ve got a cool author interview to post tomorrow though, discussing a fantastic new SF mystery, so do come back to read that!

In the meantime I’ll leave you with a small mountain of recent or (mostly) upcoming reads.

I had a blast chatting to @warlordguymer.bsky.social about VERMINSLAYER, the latest #AgeOfSigmar Gotrek Gurnisson novel from #BlackLibrary! We covered all the important questions: what it's like returning to writing Gotrek, who's the new companion, and why skaven make the best antagonists!

Had a brilliant time at #Salute52 today - one of the best Salutes I’ve been to. Went into the day thinking I probably wouldn’t buy anything…but then I hit the Rogue Hobbies stand and couldn’t resist the temptation

Dug these out today. Pure, unfiltered hobby nostalgia! Anyone else spend hours looking at these back in the day?

Saw someone mention that a recent White Dwarf referenced an upcoming #BlackLibrary release. Found that issue and yep, it does indeed: VETERANS OF THE FALL.

Could be a novel, or an anthology of some sort, but either way it sounds like another Cadian-themed release!
April 8, 2025 at 10:09 AM
Finally getting around to reading THE FALL OF CADIA - it’s quite the chunky read! #AmReading #CadiaStands

FYI #BlackLibrary authors past and present: I'm thinking a lot at the moment about series guides, reading orders and so on. If you're interested in chatting about any of your books (back catalogue included) for guides, author interviews etc. then please do drop me a line!

It’s been nearly a month since Warhammer Community last announced a new #BlackLibrary novel (Phil Kelly’s FARSIGHT: BLADE OF TRUTH). I keep hoping that something new will show up soon…

What new novels are you hoping to see?

ICYMI yesterday, check out this guest post from Fantasy author David Hair about his TALMONT books - ideal if you're on the lookout for a new series to get stuck into!

A little bit of information for #HorusHeresy fans waiting for the upcoming ERA OF RUIN #SiegeOfTerra anthology! I found this blurb on the S&S website, which gives a few details about some of the included short stories. Sounds great!

Anyone planning on going to @slondonwarlords.bsky.social #Salute this year, at ExCel? It's always good fun, and I'll hopefully be there!
March 16, 2025 at 11:25 AM
BROKEN CRUSADE by Steven B. Fischer was one of my #BlackLibrary highlights of 2024, so I was delighted to be able to chat to Steve for a Rapid Fire interview digging into the book, its characters, the nature of the Black Templars, the challenges of writing a second novel, and loads more good stuff!
March 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Oh wait, I've just found a mention of it tucked away at the bottom of Saturday's pre-orders post on WarCom (which I never normally bother reading)!
