MARTA unveils a new bus wrap to celebrate to the 25th anniversary of OutKast’s album “Stankonia”

I’ll write more about this in the future, but the bus stops near the Arthur M Blank Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta campus are just miserable. 97°F next to a six-lane road with no shade and few trees, and hourly buses. The NextGen bus route redesign can’t come quick enough.

Beginning September 8th, the Streetcar will be unavailable for three to four months as Georgia Power does urgent infrastructure repairs. There will be a shuttle van along the route.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 29, 2025 MARTA TO SUSPEND STREETCAR FOR GEORGIA POWER INFRASTRUCTURE WORK Shuttle Van Service to be Provided Along Streetcar Route ATLANTA - The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will suspend streetcar service beginning Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, to accommodate urgent underground utility repairs by Georgia Power and align with scheduled infrastructure upgrades along the streetcar route. The service suspension is expected to last approximately three to four months. MARTA will continue to provide transportation along the streetcar route. The work requires a lane closure between Courtland Street and Peachtree Center Avenue, where Georgia Power will excavate to repair underground electrical lines. For safety reasons, streetcars cannot operate alongside open construction areas. During this time, MARTA shuttle vans wrapped to look like the streetcar, will provide service along the streetcar route. In addition to Georgia Power's work, MARTA will take advantage of the closure to complete: • Catenary inspection and repair • Track maintenance • Tree trimming • Station refurbishment • Signage and vehicle updates • Deep cleaning along the route Streetcar service will resume once all work and inspections are complete.

There will be a protest tonight in Centennial Olympic Park against Israel’s intentional, violent starvation of Palestine.

To take MARTA, it is an 11-minute walk from GWCC/CNN center station or a 13-minute walk from Peachtree center station. It is also along the Streetcar route and bus route 26.

ATLANTA — District 4 Atlanta City Council member Jason Dozier released the following statement after he and his daughter suffered injuries after they were hit by a car while riding bicycles. "Last week, my daughter and I were struck by a car while riding our bicycle home from the Atlanta United match. We're grateful to be recovering, but the experience was terrifying for both of us. "As a parent, there is no worse feeling than watching your child get hurt in a moment that was entirely preventable. As a public official, it reinforced what I already know too well: Atlanta's streets are not yet safe enough for families who choose to walk, bike, or use mobility devices to get around." "We were doing something that should be normal-enjoying our city, attending a local event, and heading home together by bike. But because our streets lack the protected infrastructure we need, that ride nearly turned into a tragedy." "I want to especially thank APD Zone 5, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department team from District 4's very own Station No. 7, and our Grady EMTs for their swift response, attentiveness, and professionalism. July 17, 2025 MARTA GENERAL MANAGER & CEO COLLIE GREENWOOD ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT ATLANTA - The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Board of Directors and General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood today jointly announced Mr. Greenwood's early retirement. Chief Customer Experience Officer Rhonda Allen was named acting GM/CEO. Mr. Greenwood joined MARTA in July 2019 as Chief of Bus Operations and Urban Planning, advanced to Deputy General Manager of Operations in 2021, and was named GM/CEO in January 2022. Mr. Greenwood is a Canadian citizen and was recently notified that his Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) is forthcoming after the expiration of his Employment Authorization Document (EAD or work permit) this summer. Upon expiration of his work permit on June 18, 2025, and out of an abundance of caution, Mr. Greenwood ceased working, personally notified all MARTA board members and executive leadership individually and signed a delegation of authority to Ms. Allen. Mr. Greenwood's Canadian visa is valid, and he remains in this country legally awaiting imminent delivery of his Green Card. on Mr. Greenwood's personal and professional progress. These challenges have been resolved with Mr. Greenwood's decision, and the MARTA family supports him. "My wife and I have decided this is a good opportunity to take an early retirement and spend more time with our family and friends. I do want to thank the board, the executive leadership team, and everyone at MARTA for their support and their continued work to improve and grow transit service in this region." Under Mr. Greenwood's leadership, MARTA achieved the highest AAA bond rating during a difficult financial time and has advanced the largest improvement and expansion program in its history, including construction of the region's first bus rapid transit line, a systemwide rail station rehabilitation project, and an entire fleet of new railcars. Mr. Greenwood's innovative ideas and commitment to transit equity, sustainability, and customer service helped earn MARTA the North America 2024 Outstanding Public Transportation System award from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). "Collie came to MARTA with a tremendous knowledge of transit and an innovative mind and has led the Authority through some challenges and great successes," said MARTA Board Chair Jennifer Ide. "My fellow board members and I are thankful for his leadership and wish him and his family the best." The Board of Directors will convene a committee to begin the search for a General Manager and CEO.

The official report is this was the result of a stampede, but one fan on Instagram claims that the MARTA escalator malfunctioned.

Marta escalator failed us and we all went flying down full speed to the bottom hitting each other like bowling pins. It was about 5 people on top of me alone. It was an UTTER failure by Marta. This is not how l imagined spending my birthday. I'm sharing this publicly to make the facts clear: this was not a stampede. The escalator at Vine City MARTA malfunctioned after the Beyoncé concert and sped out of control while packed with people. I was thrown into a pile, crushed under bodies, unable to move, barely able to breathe. My legs were broken and ligaments protruding-and people kept falling on top of us. EMTs made me a priority transport to the hospital because I got the worse of it. At one point, I felt myself fading. It was minutes into my birthday and I truly thought I was going to die. I remember seeing light and praying-not to live, but to be at peace. I accepted that this might be the end. I could feel myself slipping away until I whispered "one at a time" as my body was pinned to the ground. It took EMTs over an hour to get us to Grady. My friends held my legs together while we waited. I've played sports all my life and never experienced anything close to this. This was not chaos. This was a failure of infrastructure and planning. It was preventable. I have a long recovery ahead, but I'm thankful to be here. Please share and help us hold them accountable. Thank you to the witnesses who sent videos and who are attesting to the actual TRUTH. Not the falsities Marta is trying to spin on us victims. Please keep us all in your prayers. #Share #Atlanta #Marta

The shelter closed its doors in December 2017. In January 2019, following a 10-year legal battle, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) had sold the 28,500-square-foot facility for $6.2 million to Emory University, whose hospital is located conveniently across the street from the shelter building. The same corporate-backed and police-enforced political interests that provoked the founding of the shelter were ultimately the same interests that shut it down, leaving hundreds of people necessitating relocation or subject to abandonment. And so, the cycle repeats itself.

The cost of using vehicles in family-friendly events. I’m sure there was a time where parades didn’t involve Ford F150s.

The drivers of the vehicle paused to switch drivers and continue on in the parade. During the switch, the new driver mistakenly hit the accelerator which caused the vehicle to lunge forward. The vehicle struck a pedestrian, knocking her to the ground. When the driver hit the brakes, the trailer disconnected from the truck and caused several people on the trailer to fall off. Several children and an adult were injured. No one is in critical condition and most were transported to local hospitals. We are still actively investigating the crash and have no other information to release at this time.
