As today's snowfall is early, the ground is not frozen yet, so sometimes our sidewalk equipment can accidentally cause damage to grass (sod) and other landscaping. While some damage is unavoidable, we’re committed to working with our crews to reduce it as much as possible.

The thresholds for clearing are ➡️ 2 cms for sidewalks, 2.5 cms for expressways, 5 cms for major roads, transit routes and streets with hills and 8 cms for residential streets.

Salt brine will be applied to high-priority roads and bridges before snow falls to prevent ice buildup. Salters are strategically located across Toronto for a faster response when the snow starts to stick to the pavement

The City will also open approximately 115 contingency spaces across the shelter system. A number of drop-in programs are also available throughout the day.

Individuals do not need to contact Central Intake to access a Warming Centre. Walk-ins are welcome.

Out of an abundance of caution due to forecasted temperatures, the City will open the following Warming Centres at 5 pm on Sun, Nov 9.

• 81 Elizabeth St. (Behind City Hall. West of Bay St., south of Dundas St. W.)

Take care on the roads & sidewalks as they may be slippery. Consider winter tires and find your winter boots. Appropriate footwear with good traction prevents slips in winter weather.

While sidewalk crews will be salting please, clear snow and ice from your sidewalks if accumulation is < 2 cm.
