It was awful to have no rep to turn to when something went wrong. The state assembly gerrymander was also galling, esp given the protests in the city after the Covenant School shooting — the assembly’s reaction was to ignore calls for red flag laws and remove two young Black lawmakers who protested

I agree, and this is true in the state assembly as well. But I’ll definitely say that as a Nashville resident, the redistricting was utterly demoralizing. Went from a responsive Blue Dog Dem to a GOP drone who, fun fact, is married to a woman he met while judging her high school 4-H fair in his 40s

it’s the least important thing in this but it’s so offensive to me how bad every bit of communication from this admin is, even just at the level of prose. a “permanent pause” doesn’t exist! that’s the opposite of the definition of the word “pause”!!!

the entire conclusion of my dissertation is just an argument that video podcasting is an affront to a form that is intimate primarily because we consume it aurally!! i don’t want my podcasts to be tv!! that’s what tv is for!!

not for nothin but “eligible programs for the inaugural Best Podcast eligibility list” is a wording I personally would not have included in this release, what a mouthful

Yep — lived in Tennessee for six years and my takeaway was that, while extreme gerrymandering was keeping the dems down, it was also a poor education system and racial resentment among the wreckage of the industrial working class post-NAFTA.

I don’t think the education systems in those states are helping the issue either, despite how hard many teachers are working

Invited mine up on the first night I had him. He’d never been on furniture before. Nine years later and he’s never spent a night on anything but a memory foam mattress. I’m a sucker!

*guy garners national attention, gets more votes than any candidate since 1969, wins a majority in a 3 way race including a former governor who is also of the same party, and runs up the margins with supposedly disaffected young men* “honestly pretty pathetic showing if you think about it”

Everyone is rightly talking about Mamdani’s digital messaging, but this is what made his campaign so impressive to me — his ability to translate that into action. Young people are begging to be activated! The scavenger hunt and inter-borough soccer tournament were both genius extensions of that.

Always surprised that the pool doesn’t ask the same question the next day and say “now that you’ve been made aware and had time to follow up on it…” bsky.app/profile/moth...
Does the Speaker of the House know what's going on in the country?

It's not clear that he does, as Mike Johnson's communication strategy seems to rely heavily on being unaware.

When faced with questions he should be able to answer, he has a reliable response: "I don't know."

not the point at all but clearly kamala’s answer wasn’t “election-changing,” since they cut it and she still lost

This data is interesting — and in fact, I just talking to an Argentine-American this weekend who said “I was looking into getting a US passport for my son, but the government is closed, and anyway, I don’t think it’s as valuable as it used to be.”
