Mastodon post: Jesus fucking christ does the American Healthcare industry (cuz let's be honest, it's for-profit) suck ass... I'm still having daily nausea that my pcp has been unable to treat and the ultrasound didn't find anything so she put a referral for me to see a gastroenterologist in a MONTH ago but when I called to make an appointment, they said they "were very behind on scheduling referrals" so I should call back in a month to see if they'd even gotten to my referral yet, so I called today and... yep still totally backed up at least through the end of the year, and I can't even schedule anything until after they "review my referral" which is apparently taking forever to even get to that step 🙃 so I could be dying of cancer RIGHT NOW (I'm really hoping it's not 😫) and I won't even find out for several months longer, probably more. Isn't it funny how the repubs who oppose universal Medicare like pretty much every other developed nation has primarily cite an alleged difficulty in scheduling prompt medical care as a reason why, while here we are paying out the ass for medical insurance that typically finds a way to weasel out of paying claims yet it's STILL impossible to see a specialist even months after the problems started 🙃🙃🙃 Mastodon post: Jesus fucking christ does the American Healthcare industry (cuz let's be honest, it's for-profit) suck ass... modern day music venue AU book research question...what exactly happens when someone gets assaulted by another person on a city bus?
screenshot of part of a masto post: Time for another research question...in this modern day AU version of my book characters that I'm writing, Theo (who in this world is a goth/emo young man) was on a city bus in Los Angeles with his DJ mixer board on the floor next to him, some "alpha male" type bullies started harassing him and calling him the f-word slur for "gay" and he ignores them, but then one of them (annoyed that theo is ignoring him) kicks over his $4,000 mixing board that he was barely able to save enough to buy used and Theo shoves against him in response, trying to stop him from breaking it further, then the bully punches him in the cheek and while Theo is still recovering, the bus driver finally notices and pulls over to the side, then they're waiting for the cops to show up and take statements etc. part of a masto post: The questions I'm having a hard time answering are--what exactly would the bus driver and/or cops do in this situation? Would anyone be handcuffed or just kicked off the bus? Would Theo -also- be kicked off, even though he was just trying to protect his stuff from the bullies? There's also a girl among the passengers who was recording the whole thing on her phone, I'm trying to engineer a way where she posts the video online, someone who recognizes Theo sees it and messages him to ask if he's okay, then eventually the word gets back to Theo's paramour and...anyway, that doesn't matter yet. I'm mostly just stuck on trying to figure out 1. if anyone on the bus would get arrested or just kicked off the bus, including Theo for shoving against the bullies after they kicked his stuff (or just for "being involved"), and 2. what the process for suing would be like--do the cops give you the other person's info if you demand it or something then the decision is left to you to hire a lawyer and all that? (theo wouldn't want to do that, he just wants to be left alone, but I want to know for my own purposes) last part of the post: I have no idea where this scene even came from, it just came out while I was writing it, and it's good for adding some danger and intrigue to the plot, but dang x.x Every time I try to make things go well for Theo, some new horrible thing sprouts up, whether he's in medieval times or modern day 😅

I decided to be naughty and take a "break" between book 1 and 2 to indulge in this music AU idea I had where lys is a famous pop star and theo is a sound engineer tech at a concert venue where lys does a show, and theo is already SHREDDING lys mentally when they haven't even met yet :joy:

Found it grating and soulless, manufactured by committee to be the most “earwormy” to generate sales. Ironically, it sounded more artificial to him than the kind of music that actually used nothing but machines to produce. And Lysander Delion was a step below even the awfulness of pop music in general—he was a nepobaby. His father owned Everest Entertainment—one of if not the largest record label companies—which pretty much guaranteed Lysander a signing as long as he could at least ululate into a microphone without sounding like a dying cat. And even if he did, they could always fix that with autotune.

mastodon post about this "music AU idea" that exploded in my head during my drive back home after going to a halloween kink party with my friend, lol (the party was not exciting, calm down)
screenshot of a mastodon post: I spent basically the entire 1 hour 40 minute drive back from olympia to portland thinking of this music AU version of the characters in my gay medievalish romantasy where lysander is a famous pop rock star who plays a gig at a concert theater where theo works as a sound equipment setup guy and lys is immediately interested in him but theo just DGAF and thinks he's some arrogant prick, but after meeting him briefly lys looks him up on facebook (ew facebook) and finds a profile for theo's music, apparently he makes his own goth edm music that he DJs at raves sometimes, so lys sneaks into one of the raves (wearing a hoodie and shades so he doesnt get recognized) then uses his star power to get backstage where he approaches theo and says he wants to make a song together, and at first theo is like "Wtf this guy is a stalker" but lys offers him such a big payment offer for the song as well as promises to introduce him to other music execs and stuff and theo really wants to quit his shitty jobs and make music full time so he reluctantly accepts the contract and starts working with lys and actually lys is a lot nicer and more respectful than he expected and they end up becoming friends and...a bunch of other stuff happens lol, it's actually really sweet and interesting and gah lol

I can't get over how fucking adorable (but also sexual tension-y) this scene is, where Lys is teaching Theo to ride a horse while riding behind him on one. (also theyre still late-15 so Lys is like, 6'2" 150 lbs and Theo is 5'7" maybe 120 (slight build)

To his surprise, the prince did not wrap his arms around Theo’s waist—did not seem to need to grab hold of anything at all, comfortable as the royal was with riding horses. The only time their hands touched was when Lysander reached for the reins draped near the pommel, took Theo’s hands into his own, then gently nudged his fingers to grasp the reins properly. “That’s it,” Lysander coaxed, his breath warm against the side of Theo’s neck. “Easy. You’re guiding her—not commanding. Press your heels in, then she’ll understand you.”

thanks everyone for hanging out with me on my stream while i drew "fanart" of the characters from my gay romantasy novel! This was my attempt at a #chibi Theo...obviously I havent done any shading yet, but considering I never do chibi, I think I did okay 😅

For just a second, he’d forgotten the other royal was there—for just a second, he’d almost relaxed into the touch. If he’d really been a cat, he might have been purring.

After a moment’s hesitation, Theo snatched it, holding it next to his own as he waited for Lysander to finish messing with the ties of his cloak, evidently having trouble knotting them though he stood steadily, not yet so drunk that he was swaying. An expert at tying cloaks shut, Theo set the masks down and crossed closer, slapping Lysander’s hands away to take over the task. Even beneath the mask, Lysander watched him with a grin that was almost a leer, not even bothering to hide the hunger within his gaze. Theo carefully avoided meeting that gaze as he deftly knotted the ties together, refused to look up even as Lysander leaned close, so close, and whispered into his ear, “My little tomcat.”

another paragraph from the story further down: Seeing the prince tie himself into knots had Theo softening to the point that he risked revealing his feelings enough to cross to the other side of the carriage, sit very near to Lysander, then rest the side of his cheek on the prince’s shoulder. He said nothing—neither of them did—but Lysander breathed out slowly, sighing in some slight form of relief.

Theo hardly knew how to handle it—his own eyes started to water, and beneath Lysander’s tight grasp, he shifted his arms, hugging him tightly back.
