As someone who does a certain amount of long runs and walks, and who works outside, I have had a lot of base layers over the years.
I have to say that, for all round versatility and comfort, Uniqlo is up there with the very best, but much more affordable and works well in a non-sport context.

I remember a lecturer at the Institute of Archaeology who stopped suddenly, mid sentence and let out an explosive sneeze.
He then fumbled in his jacket pocket, pulled out what was unmistakably a pair of socks, blew his nose on them, and carried on with the lecture.
