1. I didn't ask
2. You can't actually adjust the settings

New DLR trains feel a lot like a light metro compared to the old ones that were more like coupled trams. Anyway, they're out and ready to ride! (one of them, at least)

Group K rounds out SF, with the much-maligned Balboa Park still being strong enough to top this group. Stonestown makes it through but not SF State - barely - though there is room for City College.

Group J rounds out the VTA coverage zone, with the rest of the Orange Line. Once again a straightforward group with the biggest stations taking the spoils, but Fair Oaks and Lockheed Martin are proving to be popular.

The group stage is now over! Let's rattle through the second half of the groups.

Group I took us further out in SF, with no surprises here - the most metro-like stations got through, and the most streetcar-like stations sadly bowed out. And wow, the N Judah got completely violated here.

BART's newest (and shiniest) stations made a clean sweep of Group H, and the Spanish-solution timed-transfer marvel that is Baypointe eked out a berth. Hard luck for Fremont...

That's the halfway point of the qualifiers, as the bracket begins to take shape. The other half will be done tomorrow.

An insane four-way tie was the talk of Group G, with the order settled based on a combination of service level and ridership. Tough day at the office for the Mission District unfortunately, and despite this silly event being based on a basketball competition, there's no such luck for Chase Center.

It's still the qualifiers and Group F might have already produced the upset of the tournament - tiny little Orinda going through, and TOD-heavy Pleasant Hill going out! Orinda is hoping for a Cinderella run in the knockouts, joined in this group by Walnut Creek, Livermore ACE, and Dublin/Pleasanton.

Right from the get-go, Group E was always the Group of Death, being in SoMa, the Bay's most transit-dense region. Despite suffering from major leaks, Chinatown station still did enough to top the group. Two Market Street BART stations and the Caltrain depot got through, but no room for Montgomery.
March 3, 2025 at 4:29 AM
Heading a bit further south, Group D was always a bit of a sleeper, but it has spawned a new fan favorite in Race station! Tamien being the only stop with Caltrain also gets through, and it's commiserations for Ohlone-Chynoweth... maybe they should bring back the Purple Line?
March 3, 2025 at 4:14 AM
Central San Jose is anchored by Diridon so it's no surprise that it eased to the top of Group C. The other stations that made it through are all very central, with Santa Clara Street beating Convention Center on the ridership tiebreaker. As for Gish, it got... well... Gished.
March 3, 2025 at 4:11 AM
Heading up to northern CCC in Group B, a fan favorite has suddenly emerged: the station that isn't, the BART-eBART transfer station at Pittsburg. It wasn't great news for the rest of eBART though. Meanwhile, BART's two Concord stops, and Martinez Amtrak, did enough to qualify.
March 3, 2025 at 1:42 AM
Qualifying group A was a cakewalk for Downtown Berkeley, with Richmond and Del Norte putting up strong showings too. Berkeley Amtrak was a bit of a surprise package in fourth place, and it's yet another tough pill to swallow for North Berkeley.

25 trains and lots of pain later,

I’ve done it, all 140 TMB Metro stations!

Unfortunately I failed to achieve my goal of under 7 hours, but hey, at least I completed it.

Now I pass the challenge onto the greater interwebs: beat my time.

(Here’s how to beat it: don’t try a Rodalies shortcut.)

Thought about aborting the run, but we’re in too deep.

Holding out the tiniest sliver of hope that sub-7 is still possible.
