This is a river redhorse, a bottom-feeding fish native to the Appalachians. I don’t know what possessed him to take a trout fly, but when he felt the hook he fought hard. He’s none the worse for wear, though. I released him back into the Tuckaseegee River. #fishing

Colorful brook trout, the only trout native to Virginia and North Carolina. Released him (and several of his friends) back into the Tuckaseegee River.

Halloween fundraiser as a 1920s gangster. I can’t do a Chicago accent, so I’ll be Al Capone’s Southern cousin, Earl. Prohibition is great down here. My drivers are soupin’ up cars to outrun feds. Cars look stock so’s not to draw attention. My boys say that will turn into a big motorsport someday.

A little research at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Behind me is the U-505, the only German submarine boarded and captured by the U.S. during #WWII. Came here for the first time a while back when working on my novel SILVER WINGS, IRON CROSS.

During a recent tour of #WWII sites in Europe, I met two actors from the “Band of Brothers” HBO series. Ross McCall (center) played Joe Liebgott, and Robin Laing (right) played Babe Heffron. They offered fascinating insights into the making of the series and the history behind it. #ww2travel
