To me it’s mainly that season 2 (specifically The Coming of Shadows) was the moment you said “holy shit they’re actually going to do it”. Everything now is multi season arcs but that just wasn’t a thing back then.

Because the national parties just aren’t in the same places as the state parties would be if they were their own country? In Illinois if you’re going to break up those 80-20 and 70-30 urban districts those democratic voters have to go somewhere. Actual purple states would probably swing and

If you’re aiming for each state’s political midpoint in each district you’re going to get a lot of all-red or all-blue delegations. Maybe that’s okay. If you’re aiming for the national midpoint how do you do that? As many midpoint districts as possible and one or a few absolute endpoint districts?
