Yes, that is a big drawback - "we will protect your child (but only about 10% of the time)" is not such a great message.

We have bought a (modern) Nokia 3210. No Wi-Fi, but it does have the snake game.

Interestingly, EE recommends a non-smart phone for kids under 11, but doesn't sell any non-smart phones.

Its new Safer SIM, designed for kids, comes with unlimited data. The Safer SIM does look like a good idea, but not fully thought through.

Principles? Me? No, I just need a cheap SIM for a dumbphone for my son on his commute to school (I'd take a few GBs of data if it worked out cheaper). Interesting that what was once the standard contract is now almost impossible to find.
