Just some middle-aged Gen X'er whose primary purpose in life is to be a worthwhile homestead partner and pet parent.

Also still does super amateur-level videography by request. I know how to frame a shot, but have more intuition than disciplined skill.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I have just now completed my Halloween essay, which is about NIGHTBREED. It was just about the coolest thing I'd seen when I was 14, its flaws are more evident now, but so are its various meanings. It has dozens of cool monsters, it's pro-freak, anti-fascist, and full of imagination. I love it.
Nightbreed (special Halloween revisit) | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
There was a time when I was 14 years old and Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED was my favorite movie. Maybe that was too soon to move on from BATMAN, or maybe they
