I don’t know what to say anymore other than to remind those in power that refugees are human beings with equal rights who, along with their children, deserve a safe, stable & integrated life in their communities and that what they’re breaking now with this performative cruelty can’t be fixed later.
The Labour government does not want to rule out deporting somebody once here as a refugee 16-19 years with a British-born 15 year old child

How can trans history facilitate knowledge and solidarity beyond the 'existence' of trans people?

Sam Rutherford @echomikeromeo argues for trans history as a tool of political education, through the history of access to healthcare:
Imagining Trans Futures
Sam Rutherford reflects on how trans histories and historians can work towards building power in the trans community.

Israel bombed a hospital.

Rescue workers and reporters rushed to recover the dead and the wounded.

Israel bombed the hospital again. Live on TV.

Read that again.

Our government’s legacy will be its complicity in crimes against humanity. End all arms sales to Israel, now.

reading Ramón Grosfoguel's The Epistemic Decolonial Turn, which feels always relevant but especially so as western governments drop bombs in the name of democracy

Enough of this racist fiction. Enough. Not a single non-white person in England is in a job in the NHS *because* they are non-white. Not a single one. And as for the idea that England's criminal justice system goes easy on non-white people because they are non-white.

Well. Just think about that.
A group of Labour MPs, peers and supporters write:

“We should legislate to root out DEI in hiring practices, sentencing decisions and wherever else we find it in our public bodies.”

Devastated to see how quickly this has arrived in the UK mainstream.

that today's right wing explicitly takes political awareness as a named enemy just feels like bad writing, like this season of the America really doesn't trust its audience
Can't be overstated how fucked up it is that Black folk came up with a word to express people being aware of the oppression of other people and it's now targeted by far right governments globally as something evil that must be destroyed

excellent points in this, especially that these people are openly admitting that it is not about biology, it's about perception: they aim to narrow down the definition of womanhood to those who present correctly - i.e. adhere to standards of white femininity.
The UK Supreme Court’s transphobic ruling on the definition of woman last week is a defeat for all women—even, ultimately, the self-described feminists celebrating it, and the women who will gain in the short term from their alliance with the carceral state.

The UK's Anti-Trans Ruling Is a Defeat for All Women
Even the self-described feminists celebrating the Supreme Court's attempt to banish trans people from womanhood will pay a heavy price.

No trans people were consulted on this decision that only affects trans people. In fact trans people were actively barred from consulting on this decision that only affects trans people. But transphobic bigots? Oh they got consulted for days.

Fucking grim. I'm absolutely fuming.
The UK Supreme Court has unanimously decided that the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010 refers solely to biological sex, and does not include people with a Gender Recognition Certificate.

as mentioned in lrt, I only learned today (in an excellent UCU webinar with Dr Leona Vaughn) that we all as British taxpayers were still paying off the government's debt for the Slave Compensation Act 1837 - the act that compensated slave owners for their financial loss - as late as 2015. 2015!!

The idea that Palestine Studies is definitionally antisemitic is abhorrent. The rank dehumanization steals the breath from my lungs. This is how the world allows genocide, by accepting that the existence of one people is anathema to another. The only liberation is a shared liberation.
