Hi Jess, I was wondering if you’d be open to adding me to your starter pack. I’d love to keep up with the work of like-minded folks and occasionally share things that might be useful to others as well. Either way, thanks for considering it.

You should definitely check out the work of Mathias Korsgaard, Anna-Elena Pääkkölä, Laurel Westrup—and my own research as well. Beyond the East Central European context, I’ve published a few articles on music videos by artists like Lana Del Rey, Earl Sweatshirt, Massive Attack, and Jlin.

Hey! Just a heads-up that music video studies are gaining momentum globally, with scholars from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand making waves. Our book Traveling Music Videos (Bloomsbury, 2024) captures some of that exciting work. It’s always refreshing to look beyond the usual US scope.

"What strikes me as most original in the volume Tomáš Jirsa and Abraham Geil edited is precisely that, in adopting these multiple viewpoints, it contests the primacy of the art-historical narrative on the portrait and its traditional emphasis on the portrayed subject." (A. Irimia, Critical Inquiry)
