I'm working on a little post-campaign polish so you can look at your deck after completing the game. You can do any puzzles you missed and keep playing bounties forever. And then I got carried away and added some space fireworks.

In one of the zillion Battle Suit Aces prototypes, the cards spawned little chibi mecha to do the actual fighting. All the projectiles were fired in chibi world and it was very confusing. And illustrating everything in two styles was not one of our best ideas.

For me, launching a game always feels like a crash. Even when it's going reasonably well. The productivity and clarity of the final pre-launch phase ends so abruptly. My brain wants to overreact to every bit of feedback.

I found a bug in the difficulty system but don't worry. I fixed it and no one will know how egregious it was or how long it took to find it.

I don't know how we shipped Battle Chef Brigade without something like this. Playing all of Battle Suit Aces' branches to make sure you didn't miss anything wasn't feasible, so tools saved us.

Another really nice feature is automatically providing item descriptions and abilities for artists. This way, they don't have to hunt down or ask what something does or what the lore is. This was critical as we finalized everything for localization.

One of the most useful tools we built to manage the massive number of illustrations in Battle Suit Aces was the art production sheet.

We update it from the editor so we have in-game usage info and it pulls thumbnails from git. And then direction notes and progress tracking happens here.

We're into the final bugs in Battle Suit Aces (AHH LAUNCHING OCT 7) and this stumped me. The card should be able to fire!

The card was consuming its own energy instead of the shared team energy. That's a cool feature we support (arbitrary value lookup expressions) but this one was just confusing.

Good news: I just solved all of our Easy and Hard Difficulty Mode bug reports!

The difficulty selector wasn't working so everyone was always on Normal -_-

Our Chinese localization specialist just finished LQA and wrote the kindest note about Battle Suit Aces.

Preparing to launch is so stressful and overwhelming that it's hard to actually experience or evaluate what we've built, but there are signs that it's special and meaningful.

Cards have the same problem as episodes except there are way more of them. I try to just use codenames for things but have to check the localization spreadsheet sometimes to figure out bugs.

In code, this is BanditSlicer...but to players its Ripsaw from the Carrion Riders faction 😅

Now that the writers have named all the episodes in Battle Suit Aces, we get bug reports referring to those.

Remembering 45 episodes' codenames was already difficult and now they have a bonus name. And don't get me started on cards!

Such a curse that some of the most productive and fun parts of game dev come at the end.

It's like finally getting to dessert except the restaurant is closing and all the chairs are already on the tables around you.

Anyway, I'm implementing starball and it's a fun twist on normal gameplay.
