I know, “I ain’t reading all that…” but this is me reflecting on the eve of an historic election, which is also 3 years *to the day* that I met @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, about 6 weeks after I realized my lifelong dream of living in NYC. In short, I want my @socialists.nyc comrade to be our mayor!
Tomorrow night at this time, I should know if one of the first people I met in NYC after moving here 3 years ago, who: * greeted me as a new neighbor & comrade & wanted to take a picture with me, then gave me a shout-out in his speech that night * has offered me tea & food at events * de-escalated, as if a fellow marshal, a disturbed disruptor at a Tax the Rich rally he spoke at * sat by my side in 2023 in a policy discussion with the NYC-DSA Healthcare Working Group as a co-sponsor of the New York Health Act, then during lunch outside called me over to chat * dutifully represents me & thousands of my new community in the World’s Borough * welcomed & formally recognized the group of organizers I was part of into the legislative chamber in Albany during a #FixTheMTA lobby day * has taken risks with & gone on hunger strikes for bold legislation seeking to better the lives of the underserved & repressed * has served as an example of determination & compassion in organizing, from his role as an elected to putting his body on the line & facing arrest in supporting other movements * has stood up to fascist officials * has faced vile death threats & discrimination, ever-increasing & desperate attacks on his character * even with all that, will still greet me with a smile as a friend, fellow organizer, & neighbor in the People’s Republic of Astoria … will be elected as the (democratic socialist) mayor of the greatest city in the world. He will have achieved this because there are hundreds more like me who have been honored to even somewhat know him, a 100,000 more who have been inspired to volunteer, & millions more who believe he can deliver on his promises to provide the working class — in the wealthiest city in the wealthiest country in modern history — a life with greater security and dignity. I reflect on this not because I’m special but because I have had the opportunity through joining DSA. A better world truly is possible, and we can win it through organizing. It looks like there really was a “Halloween sticker motivation” jump in polling compared to previous days! (I know among the @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social canvass leads, *a bunch* of us [including me] voted today for this.) 🤞 this is all in our favor.
Side-by-side comparison of the cumulative numbers from the Board of Elections at https://vote.nyc/page/early-voting-check-ins of the Day 6 (yesterday) and Day 7 / Halloween (today) check-ins, with my own math added in brackets showing over 15K in Queens, over 25K in Manhattan, and over 30K in Brooklyn voting today, with 5,175 more in the Bronx and 4,630 in Staten Island. So, a jump of 81,861 voters from yesterday to today. (I did a tiny bit of informal impromptu poll site visibility this morning after voting in Astoria, Zohran’s home turf, and people were excited about the Halloween sticker and to vote for Zohran!)

I am the most shy goober ever, but learned to flip the switch. If I can do this (that’s me training), you can come to a canvass for the first time, get trained, partnered up with an experienced canvasser, & listen to your neighbors. YOU can help claim victory & be part of enacting popular policy!
What ended up being a crowd of about 60 volunteers, dressed warmly including the brand new bright blue Zohran beanies we all got, back in early March during petitioning in Queens (all NYC candidates must collect signatures for all races, whether insurgent or incumbent, every time, from AOC on down). We are gathered round for training at a park; I stood on a bench to be better heard.

Sunset Park canvass, I count at least 55 volunteer canvassers Not sure where this was from but looks like 19 canvassers in the photo. One of them is wearing a “Solidarity Melts ICE” shirt from NYC-DSA. Ridgewood crew, three dozen strong East Village volunteers gathered under a massive tree… I’m not even gonna attempt counting, could easily be over 100

Astoria canvass at Athens Square Park — over 120 volunteers total. I’m in the back next to a column. Canvass in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, gathered in front of the library near Grand Army Plaza. Bananas numbers, looks like over 100. Canvass in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, at least 80 canvassers. Upper West Side canvass — photographer had to go past the benches in the gathering spot into the park in order to capture everybody. Too many to count!

Hence my trying to help you out with sharing his filmography, he’s one of the most iconic film stars and cool figures of cinema. Later in life dedicated earnings from his Newman’s Own line of pasta sauces, lemonade, popcorn, etc., to charity. Anyways, hope you will watch some of his movies!
