But isn't it still a conspiracy theory? An association (unfortunately, in this case) doesn't prove guilt.

Genuinely asking: If the framers considered non-slaved and slaved to be part of the polity, what political standing did they ascribe to slaves? Why were they worried about the 700,000 as freed people, but not as slaves?
