It’s dead simple: build this bridge, pull traffic out of DT; preserve Alexandra Bridge for active transport and restore for future trams; enact plan for restoration/replacement of others. See article bit.ly/45PIKCE

"Ungoverning is not a neutral act. It is an ethical choice. It shifts power from the many to the few. It transforms rights into commodities. It turns need into opportunity for private profit. And it abandons the belief that a society should be judged by how it treats the vulnerable."

Don’t forget, for many years #Uber insisted loudly that it would reduce traffic in cities. Instead, Uber drivers cruise without passengers 40% of the time. Uber and Lyft no longer claim they reduce traffic. They now admit they increase congestion.

So much for “making cities better…”

Three things that a worker who has just experienced a violent incident need to hear:

1) Are you okay?
2) I’m so sorry that this happened to you.
3) What can I do to help?

You’ll note that “What did you do to cause this?” is not on this list.

The 14 were selectively slain because they were women in a domain stereotyped as men's.

We have some experience with that stereotype.

I see it as a serious test of our municipal politics whether the TTC is forced to drop its slow down policies on line six and strong signal priority is implemented. Anyone who was a serious proponent of transit city should be livid

If the urbanists would like a project perhaps we could redesign the upgrade highway interchange directly in front of Canada’s largest train station?

I had a discussion with a friend (homeowner in the South End, bought way before Halifax took off) who essentially said that if we just let places build up, everything will be apartments and no one will own (said with a hint of disgust).

This is someone who could not own if she were a decade younger

I like living in a place where renting is common and normalized and homeownership culture is not as strong.

Specifically, I dislike the common idea that you’re a “failure” if you rent (or you’re being “exploited”). And the culture that glorifies rising house prices.

fun fact: you can get from Kipling to kennedy on line 2 (across the whole city!) in the same amount of time you'll be able to get from humber college to finch west when line 6 opens tomorrow. even though it's under half the distance.

our first new "rapid" transit line in 23 years 🥲

You know what's funny? It's that Canada does multi-stage pedestrian crossing in its oldest LRT, in Edmonton!

Because it treats it as a railway crossing, with railway barriers...

But conceptually it's a multi-stage pedestrian crossing, allowing the LRT to have full priority... at 70 km/h!
