My wee tantrum over, I’ve deleted my outrage at how universities are attacking the very foundations of research and critical thinking (the thing that distinguishes us from rocks).
I’m now having a cup of tea in front of a fire in a lovely pub in Huonville.
I’m still right though.

Three chatty kookaburras on the roof. That must be good.
I mean, one pooped on me. Less good.
But I’m going with the good overall. Trying to be positive.

Once a childhood favourite of mine; now a favourite of B. I was sorry to hear that Allan Ahlberg has passed.

I had the enormous pleasure of saying some words to open Matt Warren’s exhibition Cluster yesterday over at Rosny Schoolhouse.
It was nice to meet the deputy mayor. The camera’s lens - as always - not happy to meet me.

Eastern Shore nipaluna. There’s a wonderful new exhibition at Rosny Schoolhouse called Cluster by Matt Warren. Well worth a visit.
It’s open today (from 11) and there’s a welcome tomorrow at 2.30 ft. small words from me.

Shoutout to the Tasmanian City Library and their cracking reading rooms. Mountain on one side, city on the other.
I found myself in need of a quiet space today, and goodness this is a wonder.

I know we desperately need rain. But do we need all the rain, all at once? And an Eastern Shore, surely we need that too.

“We are at all a time high in all things cephalopodic.“ - I love puns, even obscure ones like this. A drink on me to the first who can name it up.

The wonderful Dr Jaye Early has just published a wonderful book with @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social everything you wanted to know about late-Foucault, confessional forms, and video art.
He was interviewed about it a few days ago for @newbooksnetwork.bsky.social and it’s now up and worth a listen

I was asked for a new headshot for a thing I’m doing but only had my phone to hand.
This is not good news. I do not photograph well.
This was the best one.

It will come as no surprise to anyone who has seen my desktop - “poor digital hygiene” was a phrase I was introduced to recently - but my physical life is sadly much the same.
Egads I am a disgrace. And not proud of it either. I hope I am not a clichéd academic. But oh for time to sort.

After a frustrating couple of hours in the garden I headed down to the lovely Lost Captain with my laptop, fully intending to complete some marking with a lemonade by the river.
But my mobile provider has let me down, so wine and food it is.
As you can see, I’m devastated.

Apologies for the thirst trap selfie, but I figure it’s Friday and you deserve a treat.
Delighted to end the week with a lovely sauna down at Taroona beach with Elsewhere Sauna who are there every Friday-Sunday for a while.
Reminds me of the terrific summer I had in Finland last year.

Reasons to be cheerful this Friday afternoon.
I think this is my fifth (or sixth) of these nominations, which is always lovely. And not once have a bothered to fill out the paperwork to take it further (we reward good practice by making hard working people write essays on pedagogy, no ta!)

Local primary school have just opened their 1999 time capsule. I’ve realised a few things:
- one of their Y1 is now completing a PhD with me (I am officially ancient)
- Tassie tuck shop & canteen $ were great (and most of these food types are now forbidden)
- where can I buy Paradise Punch in ‘24?
