I fear bussing kids 25-30 minutes away from home might create equity on paper, but won’t build real community. MCPS does seem to capitulate to certain parents’ wishes often which is unfortunate. I hope the final decisions are made are truly done for to maximize the benefit for all.

their everyday lives so they can build relationships with kids who don’t just look like them or have the same wealth level as them. But I also think there is value in building up local schools as places students can feel invested in.

Exactly! This guy is a joke. They built a new school with 2000+ seats (and are expanding the capacity of Northwood) in already developed areas. Going to have to shift boundaries around. I guess the pearl clutching and fear mongering drive more clicks! 🙄

The other 3 options show boundaries that are geographically focused and are not outrageous. They likely felt obligated to create a boundary map that artificially generates slightly more diversity in the W schools, but we all know that’s just not how it’s going to go. Chill out maybe?

My association “voted” in favor of supporting this resolution despite my and a few other voices of reason in the weeks of discussion. The vote happened at a meeting attended mostly by empty nesters without children to attend to during dinner/bedtime.
