Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

The Declaration of Independence specifies 27 grievances with King George III and Britain.

Donald Trump and his regime have committed at least 20 of those same offenses highlighted in yellow.

Like, everyone has bad takes occasionally—god knows I have as I’m sure someone in the comments will inevitably chime in.

But the unwillingness to learn from failure is really inexcusable at this point.

Don’t surrender basic rights for political advantage. It doesn’t win anyone over.

there just isn't any liberal or democratic equivalent to the depraved contempt these people show for the rule of law or the responsibility of leadership, and if you want to moan about how we're going to have to live together, you have to foreground that, it's not subtext, it's text

Today’s news confirms it: Cuomo is Trump’s choice for Mayor. The White House is considering jobs for Adams and Sliwa to clear the field.

New Yorkers are sick of corrupt politics and backroom deals. No matter who’s running, we will deliver a better future on November 4.

pritzker should send the illinois guard to austin to harass everyone going into the comedy mothership
Can Pritzker send the Illinois National Guard into Texas
this is almost certainly under Title 32 authorities (meaning the TX guard will be nominally under TX state control but on a federal mission), meaning the posse comitatus issues that came up in California will not apply. that said, it raises a whole lot of other legal problems

Jonathan Greenblatt dismissed polls showing Mamdani winning a plurality of the NYC Jewish vote. He said the polls must be lying, because Mamdani hasn't spoken to him.

This really is the ADL's goal at this point - to be the sole representative of Jews to the government. Court Jews all over again.

It sounds conspiratorial to suggest that Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump behind closed doors to launch an assault on mail-in voting in elections administered by the states, and Trump immediately set about mobilizing federal power to do it… but that is literally Trump’s account of what happened.

Ominous: "even people not yet within the administration’s direct sightlines are becoming worried about speaking freely"

This is why it's so important for people of conscience to speak out. Resistance to authoritarianism is a coordination game.

The Supreme Court’s “shadow docket” has cast very different shadows depending on which party holds the White House.

When lower courts blocked Trump admin policies, SCOTUS intervened on an emergency basis to lift those orders in 77% of cases.

For the Biden administration, that number was 0%.

But the world wasn't invented the day you were born. There is a long history that has shaped a lot of what you see around you, much of which came about because people were able to freely move. Without those earlier periods of free migration, could you sell luxury watches?

in addition to being brazenly unprincipled, this is evidence that the conservatives KNOW trump is a mad king, but still want to imbue him with royal authority — against the well-documented history and tradition of the united states — out of their blinkered devotion to a narrow ideological project
This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!
The Supreme Court goes out of its way to say that its order today does NOT allow Trump to remove members of the Federal Reserve because it is "uniquely structured" and has a "distinct history tradition." (I do not think those distinctions hold water.) www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
