I know we're all stretched thin and trying to manage multiple disasters through mutual aid right now but if you have a few bucks left, my friend's medical horror keeps going and she hasn't gotten any donations in a couple weeks. She sure could use them. Please share

Horror’s lack of respectability is a strength of the genre. It gives us freedom and prevents (some of) us from taking ourselves too seriously

Looking for Gothic gifts? Look no further. Michelle Tang's DuMort, Rose Biggin's The Belladonna Invitation, and April Yates's Ashthorne make a deliciously indulgent trio of sumptuous settings and creeping horror.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Seized by a sudden desire to rewatch Gone Girl. So I'm gonna.

I need to buy the book. I listened to it in audio so it's not at hand to re-read, boooo. I think it's a lovely film adaptation though and one of the best uses of Ben Affleck.

I wish I could love things the way I loved them when I was 12. A book, an album. That feeling of lying in bed with a discman and feeling a million new emotions is a high I've been chasing ever since lol.

Lord of the Flies rewired my brain when I was 11. It's the first book I ever finished and then immediately turned to the first page and read again. It was like, a book can *do* that? It can make me feel like this???
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

A Very Tenebrous 2025.
The finest stories are being written in the cryptic, concealed corners that no one ever thinks to look into.

It's our mission to find them.

We can safely say we lived up to our promise this year:

Private equity is a scourge (and symptomatic of larger late stage capitalism's dysfunction)
This is one of the things I hate most about modern capitalism. The idea of making money has been fully peeled away from delivering any kind of goods or services that people would want to pay money for.
What a thrill to be part of @talkingpointsmemo.com's series about the past 25 years of digital media! I wrote about why private equity goons destroyed Deadspin and why it matters.

As always, today is a great day to support artists, writers, creators. If you have the means, buy a book, commission an art piece, sign up for someone's Patreon, go to a live theater performance, purchase someone's album from Bandcamp. You can also leave a nice comment or write a review.

Not seeing much on my timeline about it anymore, so here's a reminder: payment processors are still trying to censor NSFW content of all kinds, and are in fact getting more aggressive about it; I'm seeing stories of folks losing access every day

Call them & tell them THIS IS BULLSHIT
Stop payment processors from censoring games!

New York: votes overwhelmingly for the democratic socialist.

The majority of democrats and disillusioned working-class soft GOP voters: hell yeah!

Senate Democrats: oh yeah, no, fuck that, lol.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

It's kind of funny realizing I'm mostly surrounded by contrarians, because I hear so much criticism and push-back against most popular things that I'm always a little surprised to discover they are, in fact, popular.

Every good thing in my life has come from me saying, "oh what the hell, why not" and taking a plunge.

Sometimes this has also ended in disaster.

But on the balance, it's been good more often than not, and I recommend this tactic.
