Dr. Erika Stewart just left the Ryan Lab & @tcddublin.bsky.social to become a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Dani Dumitriu at @columbiamed.bsky.social. A scientist who is always resilient, rigorous and adaptive - looking forward to seeing what she does next.

Neuroscience is collaboration. The engram/metabolism combination couldn't have happened without our partners - especially @lydialynch.bsky.social (now at Princeton).

Also @drchristineannd.bsky.social at @columbiamed.bsky.social and Clara Ortega-de San Luis (now at the University of Jaen).

Also many thanks to to all authors and wider Ryan Lab members.

The research formed the bulk of Dr. Andrea Muñoz Zamora's PhD thesis at @tcddublin
our 3rd ever PhD graduate (who passed with no corrections in 2024).

First, we had to see if animals formed cold memories, and we needed to measure them.

While memories are generally measured as changes in animal behavior, we focused on metabolism as a first-order readout of cold experience (and we know cold induces adaptive thermogenesis).
