Now that Zinnia Jones is banned from this app, it'd be great for more people to know she's been a sociopath for a long, long time, like when she cyberbullied Thorne Melcher, a trans woman with severe bottom dysphoria, into canceling her GRS because it involved a flight in late 2020

This is the government that @mattyglesias.bsky.social and his ilk wants passing all the policies they believe need to be enacted and it's failed spectacularly. None of these people should ever be listened to for political advice.

Ds suffer from a crippling form of institutionalism that prevents them from seeing what’s happening around them. They get so fixated on following the rules, like demanding a vote to release the files, that they can’t see the files may have been destroyed already. Rs DNGAF. Ds refuse to believe that.

Yes, a glaring example of how institutionalism hurt Dems & helped give the USA this abominable so-called admin. Not enough Dem leaders realized the threat; now we’re living in MAGA hell. Biden, Garland & others helped put us here along with factors mentioned in this article.
Trump won because the total lack of imagination of how far the Roberts Court would contort the law to serve its agenda. Immunity? Instead of court reform we got a study of court reform because Biden didn't want to politicize the SCOTUS. We'll guess what happened as soon as we lost majority of house

Yep, imagine having more backbone than American institutions, because those are having cold hard funding threatened, and while many have caved, *many have not*.

Complying in advance is far less defensible for the Guides.
exactly..so then you stand up for who are being actively shut out of society EVEN IF it bankrupts the org. that's what it means to actually stand up for principles. If transphobes want to hurt trans girls, they have to hurt ALL girls..but no, trans youth are acceptable sacrifice at altar of normalcy

The thing about it is that they genuinely believe that authoritarianism is the only legitimate form of government, and democracy, human rights, and rule of law are complete psyops designed to undermine the True Will of the People, which can only be expressed through the authoritarian dictatorship
the use of "color revolution" here is like the spoor of the authoritarian internationale--the way that russian propaganda has slithered its way in to the american right
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "This is the language of a color revolution where you're calling on military men and women to disobey orders."

really enjoyed this piece from @quinnae.com, digging in to how much elites convinced themselves transphobia was a winner, even as ordinary americans demonstrably just don't care that much--and what that means for dem strategy going forward

Woke 1 was fighting the dog whistle.

Woke 2 is fighting the dog.

The problem with Woke 1 is that it was fundamentally Old Liberal in means, it had fundamentally West Wing politics despite all the posturing. Once we expose the continued power of the white patriarchy we'd...do something.

Woke 2 is for the whole damn thing, about whether we wield power against it
here's my take on Woke 2. the thing about Woke 1 is that it's born from the end of history era, when it was important to re-discover forms of oppression that had been denied or hidden. but this led to a [clears throat] hermeneutics of suscpicion, and ultimately paranoia and internecine factionalism

Woke 1 was right about everything and took a lot of guff because there was still a lot of plausible deniability out there. Woke 2 is about what to do in concrete terms now that no one’s fooling anyone any longer.

I hope Woke 2 means we get to dispense with the fear of exercising power and the glorification of being an underdog in itself. Because no, I don't want to be the underdog forever. I don't want to constantly fight the establishment. I want cultural hegemony. I want the reactionaries trembling.

They way I take something like this is considering how we'd respond with other marginalized groups in his place.

If Newsom starts dropping some explicit racism and black people all say "yeah we won't vote for him," would there be a concerted "well if he's the nominee you have to" kind of effort?

The reason red-brown alliances happen at all is because fascism is because fascism is an aesthetics-focused ideology and a lot of people on the left also have an aesthetics-focused ideology that happens to overlap significantly with fascism. They both agree “Blue-collar coded manly man is best man”

Defending Platner’s tattoo and dismissing his Reddit posts as insignificant is a kind of identity politics for privileged douchebags who believe that casual expressions of bigotry should not prevent a butch white man from getting the position of power, prestige, and authority that he is entitled to.

the difference, as ever, between the radical right and the craterbrained centrists is that the reactionary right decided what they believed and fought to make it popular

bsky.app/profile/jame...
The limits of "popular vs. unpopular" framing are perfectly illustrated by the fact that, when these sorts of reports were being written 10 years ago, "raising taxes on the wealthy" and "a $15 minimum wage" were usually (and baselessly) placed in the "unpopular" camp.
i'm fine with a deeper focus on economic issues over social issues but man does plank 2 give the game away

The more evidence mounts that Platner is lying, the more convinced I become that he is lying not only about his past but also about his current views.
CNN confirms that multiple sources suggest Graham Platner knew his tattoo was a Nazi symbol years prior to launching his campaign — and is now blatantly lying about it.
