It’s starting. I have students saying outwardly racist things and joking about classmates getting deported. When reprimanded in any way their responses have been something along the lines of “well if the orange man can say why can’t I?”.

Had to shut down my first (of many I can only assume) deportation comment directed at a Hispanic student today. How do we even deal with this without being accused of letting politics into our classroom at this point? I’m just so sad and dejected.

Constantly feeling overwhelmed by not wanting to be a bystander in the shit storm that is American politics, but also trying to not get fired so I can continue protecting and standing up for the students in my classroom.
