Would love plant recommendations (Portland suburbs) for the "dead zone" in my yard: lots of shade, and lots of pine needles around a tall pine tree (taller than my 2 story house). EVERYTHING DIES THERE. Do I rake up the needles? Add more good garden soil around the tree? Ideas?

Is there any information (reliable, accurate information) about the risk of bird flu from backyard bird feeders for songbirds and hummingbirds?

Inquiring minds want to know.

My imaginary food cart is Tina’s Tiny Pies. (No I’m not really doing this, I have just a tiny idea of how much work it would be). I spent covid lockdown teaching myself to make a decent pie crust. Last night’s result from “I can’t doomscroll anymore.”

Yeah, I don't think going all French Revolution on CEOs is the answer, but I can totally see where this comes from.

My mom and dad have been paying for long-term care policies at John Hancock for DECADES. My dad bought these policies through his work back in the late 80s. That's a lot of years.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who didn’t get the day off—who is working in a hospital or driving a fire truck or pulling big rigs out of snow banks. Happy day to all of you and I hope your family saves you some turkey for you!

Lots of reminiscing about Scholastic Book Fairs. I loved them as a kid. Was so looking forward to my kids participating. Until the first one, when they got to "preview" the books and bring home their choices.

It was full of plastic crap "educational" toys.

Would like advice on shutting down my Bird App account. Do I delete all the posts and just leave the app inactive? Or shut the whole thing down? Pros/cons of either?
