A powerful example of #OneHealth in action!

#Rabies still kills around 60,000 people every year worldwide, despite being a fully preventable disease though the #vaccination of dog populations.

Since 2023, @missionrabies.bsky.social has been carrying out massive vaccination campaigns in #Cambodia.

Poultry farm density and proximity drive highly pathogenic avian influenza spread - Communications Biology
A study using phylodynamics to investigate highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 spread in southwestern France in 2020 and 2021 demonstrates that a single introduction led to rapid spread, mainly in duck farms, with farm density driving transmission.

📢 New paper out! Since Oct 2023, France has vaccinated ducks against HPAI. Outbreaks dropped sharply. We estimated 314–756 outbreaks were expected, but saw 96–99% fewer. Vaccination likely key, but other factors still to explore. doi.org/10.3201/eid3... @epidesa.bsky.social @inrae-france.bsky.social

African swine fever outbreaks in pigs fell by 83% in 2023, hitting the lowest level since 2017.

The number of Member States affected by ASF declined, with Sweden now ASF-free.

Our experts recommend continued focus on passive surveillance for early detection.
