What a fantastic video! I have fond memories of spending lots of my Summer here way back in 1974 in the Washingtoniana room. Trust me, those cool staircases were not a thing back then!

I thought NPS did a good job with that wayfinder, laying out the controversy, ending with the question "what do you think?" To be sure, I also heard from some neighbors the refrain against imposing modern-day values on everyday racists of that time. IMHO, Newlands was not just an everyday racist.

Even worse, this was done very recently, during the ongoing government shutdown, meaning that NPS must have deemed this whitewashing of history to be “essential.”

This is an outstanding piece for many reasons, but especially as it highlights the critical role that Congress can play in receiving whistleblower disclosures. Kudos to Mr. Zelinsky and the outstanding team at Justice Connection, and above all, the courageous DOJ workers upholding the rule of law.

Do you suppose there is any chance that federal officers can be sued under 42 USC 1983 when they act under color of STATE law? That is, where National Guard members make arrests without any federal law arrest authority, perhaps in conjunction with local law enforcement?
