Conflating fictional or artistic depictions of uncomfortable subjects like abuse with real life glorification of it does nothing to address the core issue. All it does is prevent real people from talking about their struggles, it stops artists from sharing their stories and using their art to heal those wounds, it stops game developers from creating powerful moments in their games that help people understand and empathise with those who have been hurt. Additionally the lack of clarification when it comes to furries, consentual-nonconsent and specific sexual activities between consenting adults makes this change look like you are trying to "purge" the platform of certain communities, specifically the BDSM, furry and kink communities. If that is not your intention then I highly suggest you address it because that is how it has been received by not only me, but a lot of other people. These new guidelines, as they stand, will severely harm the platform. Censoring artists, writers, political commentators, game developers and many more people that make up the foundations of this platform. I'm incredibly disappointed that this is the direction that Bluesky have decided to go, especially since the platform gained its popularity as a safe haven for artists and sex workers escaping the censorship and fascist takeover of Twitter

Hey, here's what I put if it helps anybody in writing their response :)
There is a lot of unclear and vague statements made in the new guidelines regarding sexual content, especially in section 5 [2.C.ii.a]: It isn't clear what constitutes "Glorifying Harm". Does a game about killing monsters glorify harm? Do all first person shooters glorify harm? Does a consenting adult being hurt for sexual pleasure glorify harm? [5.A.i.b]: No distinction is made here between fictional and real depictions of sexual assault and non-consent. Additionally, no distinction is made for consentual-nonconsent. [5.A.ii.a]: No distinction is made here between someone telling their story of being a victim of CSA and someone glorifying it. That is a dangerous thing to not distinguish a difference between. Additionally, some adults look a lot younger than they are; how is Bluesky going to differentiate between a young-looking fully consenting adult and an underage person? Are adults who look "too young" going to be barred from posting nsfw content? [5.A.ii.b]: No clarification here on furries, anthropomorphic animals or other fictional animal characters capable of consenting. Also no distinction between fictional and real depicitons. [5.A.ii.d]: "synthetic" is not clearly defined here, does this refer to drawings? AI? More alt text on next post
