Just a friendly reminder that if I get one sale from IngramSpark, I will be back out of the negative from the *single* return and won't owe them money. And, if I get three sales from D2D, I'll actually get paid out by them. 🥲

I've seen two roundups of queer books on the Locus finalists list so far, and my book was absent from both, so just a reminder that it is in fact a queer & trans & intersex (!) book and it is a Locus finalist title.

With DOOM DARK AGES coming out, just a reminder, Bethesda, Xbox etc are all on the BDS Microsoft gaming boycott if you're participating. If there's an option to fly the 🏴‍☠️, do.
With the OBLIVION remake announced, just a reminder that the BDS boycott of Microsoft includes Bethesda (this is not a judgment, so don't @ me with your defenses--just a reminder, if you're boycotting).

AI replaces thinking, which ought to be the cornerstone of education. But decades of emphasis on rote learning/standardized tests over original thought means kids have already disconnected learning from thinking, while the insane price of US college frames the degree itself as a paid commodity.

I don’t care what it says. Gen ai bots are a stupid scam that erode your ability to use your brain, pushed on us by Amway-pilled weirdos who spent billions and are wrecking the planet even faster than before because the whole world owes them a chance to make up their losses.

It’s giant hogweed.
The biggest driver since its inception of writers experimenting with ChatGPT has been this Worldcon kerfuffle driving folks to say "All right fine, what does the fucking thing say about me?"

This story explains a LOT of things: ChatGPT appears to be rooting on sociopathic mental illness by validating every delusion of grandeur.

It also explains, in part, the hype cycle around AI: rich people, addicted to praise, invented a Compliment Machine.

A lot of people are misconstruing this and to put it bluntly a lot of these people are going to restaurants etc like normal and I'm saying we should refuse service and verbally mock them in public. They should be as afraid of going in public as boy band members at the height of their careers
I think we need to bring back heckling facists

I find the replies to this, especially from non-women, that are like "just follow the women" or "women will save us!" to be missing the point by a mile. For one, the Trump admin has a number of women working for them. For another, you cannot wait for a demographic you are not in to save you.

This Friday at noon (CT), I'll be hosting the Gunn Center for Science Fiction's virtual book club. We'll be talking about Nghi Vo's The Brides of High Hill!

Hit me up if you want to attend. The novella is about 100 pages, so it's not too late to get started reading.

I know I keep saying this, but it is incredible important to understand that the Nazi playbook was US policy. So much of the anti intellectualism has been to erase the fact that the US was on this road before the Germans and is simply reverting to the original horrors that were in motion.
I must say I no longer believe that this is reminiscent of the Nazi playbook, I believe they’re using the Nazi playbook - offshore extermination and concentration camps, targeting people on basis of race and manufactured legality, academic onslaught, media, gender policing it’s all there.
