Can you explain that graph a bit? I'm not sure I understand (I had to google VMT).

I mean, if many more housing units are created, but 56-ish year olds snap them up, then little progress has been made.

Do you think some of this is swatting at the symptons of the problem? Those statistics you posted earlier about home-buyers being 56-ish seems to be much of the cause... but I don't know quite how to fix that.

I'd like this post... but I really don't. I think the info sucks (not poster :) )

The 56-ish year old thought this would be their 22nd ... or maybe 23rd house. They weren't sure. Buy 'em and rent 'em. The guy selling said f**k off to the 56-ish yo couple and sold to the 1st time homeowners for less than the 56-ish-ers were offering. One positive light...

I think this is a big part of it. I saw a thing of PBS about two homebuyers looking to buy the same house, one couple was a 56-ish old doctor/lawyer couple, the second a 30-ish year old couple looking to own for their family for the first time.

I wonder how many of those 56-ish year olds are actually living in the homes vs renting them for whacko prices to 30-ish year olds

You should have a talk with one of our neighbors. He works for an elevator company... he has lots of info.

Not particularly a fan... no green anywhere. At night it could look like something out of Blade Runner.

Ah, Ok. It's been a loooonnngggg time since I looked for housing around Boston (like the mid-80's ago). Do the 200sqft'er have a kitchen? I know some of the apartments in Tokyo don't even have a private kitchen or bathroom.

This makes me curious how many people would accept a 120 to 300 sq ft apt. That's the size of them in Tokyo. Between the tiny apts, and the paper thin walls, I wonder how much owners would ask for rent in the Boston area.

Yep. We Boomers who had decent jobs had 30+ years of good growth in our retirement accounts. That adds up to a lot. So Boomers are snarfing up houses and renting them out for sh**loads of cash. (We're not doing this).

I don't know how you stop this kind of greed.

Are they not legal?
March 20, 2025 at 2:30 PM
Yes, that's true.

It just seems that rents are so high now, it's nigh impossible to save for ownership. I know this is a pipe-dream, but I'd love to see housing in a community like this sold for little profit.

Too bad they're rentals. Doesn't seem to do anything to improve home ownership. Just some corporation is going to make a mint off the rentals.

I'm curious, what do they consider "senior housing"? It seems like "they" think seniors don't own cars or drive.

That's aggravating, piss-offing, frustrating, and downright disgusting. What can be done though? How does one fight this?
