I mess around with technology and 3D graphics too much and do enterprise IT stuff for living. I also made @PossumEveryHour on Twitter.
Heya, I've been busy with the backend infra for the Mastodon side for the bot so I'll try to have a look at it over the holidays

Wait what if me making the bot open source just contributes to the problem?

OH NO

Meanwhile me with @possumeveryhour.io that mainly runs off user submissions and is even open source
Even put up a disclaimer I'll never sell it but still get bundled with the rest of the malicious accounts

It's a struggle.
Best I can do is to be transparent such as having the code behind the bot open source

Posted about this one here:

It's a hard one as it's people submitting the content themselves and not scrapped off the net

Idea to have some submission guidelines such as adding a watermark to your content so you're credited accordingly
I've been struggling with this one with @possumeveryhour.io
The "all credit to respective owners" is a boilerplate to fit within the description limit, and I heavily encourage people to add watermarks when they send content to be credited appropriately, but most just say to use without one

The bot has taught me NodeJS, containerization, application fault monitoring, RCA writeups, CI/CD actions, secrets handling and running a high availability application

I ain't selling the thing that keeps giving me DevSecOps skills & I'd have to be super dumb to sell my first proper FOSS project

Surprisingly a lot of messages like this in my DMs over the bot's lifespan

At one point they just gave up trying to get anything

I've had a situation where some pics were submitted by people that weren't their own, and when the owner approached me we had an agreement to watermark all of their pictures to be credited accordingly with their dinotendies username

I've created it and I'm never selling it (and fuck NFTs)

Even made a PSA post on it

Same disclaimer is on the main site as well: possumeveryhour.io
PSA: This is a non-profit ran bot. The bot and any of it's social media profiles are not for sale and never will be.

Almost all content is user-submitted with permission and does not do any scraping or malicious follows.

The bot's code is also publicly available for transparency.

Lol he blocked me after saying that people submit the pics themselves
July 25, 2023 at 12:21 AM
Well that's not very nice
The images are user submitted, not scraped off the internet
