As the author @anncleeves.bsky.social says (whose latest Vera book is set in a children's home with offshore private equity owners) - imagine how many lives could be changed, if we just changed our approach and belief in what's possible.

It doesn't have to be this way.

The social care system can be re-wired to meet the needs of more vulnerable people who need help.

Doing so, would build a strong, more cohesive Britain.

Our report focused on care services in just 3 regions:

the North East
South Yorkshire
the West Midlands

(all combined authority regions).

In these regions alone, #RORE found.

In our view, it isn't right to trade upon health for wealth.

The UK's social care sector offers a vital service - and shouldn't be treated as a market with assets to buy and sell.

Because, as our director @lizzeidler.bsky.social says...

...those assets are people.

If you agree, please share.

Nor that debt would be accumulated, through practices such as the buying and selling of properties - and passed on directly to the people scraping the funds together to buy care support.

Nor would you expect that 80% of the largest care home providers in the West Midlands, the North East and South Yorkshire, would turn out to be owned by organisations based in tax havens.

8 in 10 - that's nearly all of them.

We’re angry - you should be too.

If you've had to pay a fortune to put loved ones through care. You have a SEND child whose needs are not met. Or you went through the care system as a kid.

You would not expect money for the services designed to help, to be ripped away as profit. ⛴️🏝️⛴️ 🏝️⛴️🏝️⛴️ 🏝️

…"There’s no money to improve care!"

And yet hundreds of millions of pounds of public money is being extracted as profit.

Local Authorities spend 70% of annual budgets on care services. Yet not all that investment is channelled into high quality jobs or comprehensive care nor kept in our local economies. We hear again and again, that…
