I will say this: if you're a white westerner like me and you want to learn an Asian religion, what matters is that your sources recognize the cultural differences and help you understand them, rather than assuming meaning out of convenience. It means looking beyond feel-good quotes that sell books.

I could take or leave lay life. But I've sunk so much cost in it that I would create more hurt and chaos if I left it now than if I stayed with it. I'm trying not to get swept away by lay life. It's like learning to sail in a thunderous gale.
