Right fully agree. But then a module uses B/X-ish stats, implying that the game does in fact belong to a kind of system.

That's sure what it sounds like though! I agree, the OSR scene uses "system neutral" to mean "vaguely B/X stats". My point is that's kinda silly, because it's not what "neutral" means.

I realize I'm being extremely picky over something that definitely doesn't actually matter, buuuuut that's not system neutral. It's "system vaguely inspired by B/X". Which is great, but just say that.

Either pick a system or don't at all. It's fine if the module is stated for B/X or whatever, just go all in and do that. Or don't stat it at all. "Brutish bandit with scrappy leather armor and a rusty sword." That's what an actual system neutral module looks like.

Honestly, people who give unsolicited advice to strangers need to be told off more often.

DriveThru is the place to find more mainstream stuff. Content of D&D and its children, or anything vaguely inspired by that section of the hobby. Itch.io is way more useful for finding story games, PbtA, newer OSR/NSR stuff, all that jazz.

I tend to ask other players to jump in as NPCs. It keeps everyone engaged and makes my job a lot easier.

I'm a big fan of one book per game. If I have to buy more than one book to run a game I'm just gonna play a different game.

That said, I'm also a big fan of supplements. Give a solid core book that includes everything I need, then let me buy the modular supplements that I want.

I can't wait to play AW3, The Return of the Apocalypse.
