High electricity costs for voters w low disposable income (relative to the average electricity bill) correlate with radical right support. Rising prices disadvantage mainstream parties supportive of decarb, while the radical right gains traction since they tend to oppose climate solutions.

We employ a shift-share design w a dataset from Sweden, where high heating costs are particularly consequential for voters. We exploit changes in the spot price of electricity and local sensitivity to these price changes for each election.
